Apple tried to sell us a $3,500 ski mask that demands you sit alone in a dark room.
Meta is building normal-looking glasses you can put on at 7 AM and forget you’re wearing by breakfast.
That is why Apple’s headset team is currently on life support while Meta is winning the category.
Total immersion was always a dead end for normal people. Nobody wants to block out their living room to check email. What actually sells is tech that slips into your everyday routine without demanding you treat it like fragile museum glass.
Mark Gurman is right: Meta’s VR glasses are the hardware Vision Pro should have been from day one. I’m already putting a pair on my birthday list for next year. Apple asked you to pay a mortgage payment to be isolated. Meta asks you to walk around and live your life. That’s the entire game.
