Instead of shutting off people's power on windy days, why don't you figure out how to make a separator or spacer that keeps the lines from slapping each other & causing issues. I'm not an electrical engineer, but that doesn't seem to be a technical impossibility.
The house I moved into in 1984 had a used Maytag washer in it. I used it for the next 12 years without a problem. I had to replace it because the bottom eventually rusted out of it (after 16 years of use).

No. I think some of that depends on what part of the country you are in. California & New England people don't normally arm. Texas, almost everybody has at least one.
