One of my favorite lesser-known facts of Lord of the Rings, Middle-earth, is the Lord of All. As he approached Men at Hildórien, Morgoth saw their weakness and chose deception over terror. Morgoth came to them in a shining, beautiful form, masking his true darkness to look like the One, Eru Ilúvatar. This radiant guise, crafted to awe and mislead, let him claim the title “The Lord of All,” pretending to be their creator and ruler. One of my favorite lesser-known facts of Lord of the Rings, Middle-earth, is the Men’s corruptibility. When he arrived at Hildórien, Morgoth saw Men and their corruptibility, a sharp contrast to the Elves. The Elves, awakened at Cuiviénen under Stars, were incorruptible, resisting his attempts to corrupt them, so he resorted to terrorizing them. Men, however, were new to the world, and in their mortality was a fear that showed a weakness he could exploit. Instead of terrorizing Men, Morgoth chose deception with promises when he approached them.
