The BBC is slowly dying. If we don't come together to demand a BBC that truly belongs to us, and that truly serves our interests, then it - and the potential of public media - will be lost, perhaps forever.

Me at the crab shack: "oh no, the seafood salad has evolved, and it's trying to poison my customers!"
AI is the best business ever invented. Imagine being a manufacturer of industrial chemicals and being able to say “my chemicals went rogue” every time a question of lability is present

There's nothing benign about uninterested ministers changing their stated policies every other media interview, while they shrug off the destructive cuts being made by BBC executives. It's entirely wilful neglect

Housing should be cheap, plentiful and beautiful. If that means house prices fall and bloated housebuilders go bust, then why should anyone on the centre left care? That should be the mainstream social democratic position and the fact it isn't is absolutely horrifying.
We’re acting to support those who can’t rely on help from the bank of Mum and Dad. Our Your First Home scheme will help more families get their first rung on the housing ladder with a deposit of just 2.5%. Less to save upfront and a 20% equity loan to bring down monthly costs. With pre-registration set to open by the end of the year, help is on the way for first-time buyers.

Let's be honest. A lot of young people have stopped believing they'll ever own their own home. That's what happens when rents are high, house prices are high, and saving for a deposit feels impossible. My Labour government is stepping in to help. With Your First Home, first-time buyers will be able to buy a new-build home with a deposit of just 2.5%. Because hard work and saving should count for something. And because the dream of owning your own home shouldn't belong only to those with help from the bank of Mum and Dad.

Professional wrestling is organised around the drama of the heel and the face. The face is the wholesome one, who always plays by the rules, the crowd's best instincts made flesh. The heel cheats like fuck and the referee never seems to notice. The face's job is to lose.

We all understand nobody thought Boris Johnson would be a good PM, except for him and possibly - but not definitely - his wife. He was a flunkey, a rubber johnny that this country’s political/media class used to fuck everyone in Britain, then they discarded him and emerged clean?
I remind you that half of your political/media class frantically urged you to vote for this pig-ignorant, disastrously incompetent crook, and the other half frantically urged you not to vote for the only viable opposition, and then put two and two together about why they did that

It is quite funny that you have to pay money to the richest man in the world to have anyone see what you post on this daft site. A bit on the nose, but quite funny.

Genuinely baffling. This is a bailout to the developer-led property model, instead of the actual system change we need. Councils need funds and infrastructure to build council housing, leasehold need to be abolished across the board, and we need rent controls now.

If you vote for Labour in Holborn and St Pancras this is what you will get for the rest of Burnham's term in office: more bungs for the rich and a bare cupboard for the rest of us.
🚨 BREAKING: Andy Burnham will announce a new "Help to Buy" scheme next week Called "Your First Home", it will allow young people to buy their first home with a deposit of just 2.5%

Doing what the left wants would alienate super wealthy donors, the other great powers, the financial sector. Without articulated and massive collective power the left has to be ghosted.

Labour thinks it can defeat Polanski in H&StP, while giving the left nothing of any substance. And they might be right. If they are then they are back on track to their fancy non-jobs after Parliament, and their place at the boardroom table.

The question is almost always asked by people who have no idea what money is, and would find it ridiculous, if not offensive, if you suggested they should find out. Money for them is an unanalysable, finite lump, a magical isotope of gold, and there is nothing more to be said.
every time, the same question 'how will you pay for it?'. if Burnham won't contemplate radical institutional change/financial repression, if he keeps the status-quo, then the answer can only be austerity for a part of the welfare state to patch the other.

The circumstances that will make the break possible are largely outside of our control. But a task that is both possible and necessary is the creation of informed collective agency at scale, so that when the crisis comes there is no option for our electeds but the break.
I think @michaelujacobs is quite impressive on this podcast episode, which will be interesting to anyone who's listened to all 4 of the CPP episodes on what it would mean to actually break with neoliberalism. The bigger question is... (1/2)

Call it a party, if you like, call it whatever you want. But design it so that every member has eyes on its operations and governance, and can be reasonably confident that its officers will act faithfully in pursuit of the shared agenda. prometheus-mag.com/2025/07/0…

Fine, but an unreformed BBC cannot be saved @arusbridger. A public media system fit for the digital age will cost a lot of money, a politically unsustainable amount unless we have a voice in the governance and operations of what is supposed to be our BBC. app.prospectmagazine.co.uk/s…

We both know editorial power, the ability to shape the information space, is what matters. It's a power that only a very few fully understand, let alone exercise. If there is to be public media in the future we will need to makes this knowledge/power a common possession.

Unearned income and inherited wealth are the rewards we are promised, in the great transformation worked by carousel. The idle rich are the receding mirage that keeps up completing the daily round and the circuit of capital.
It's weird that politicians who want to "encourage more people into work" never support abolishing landlords or 100% inheritance tax.

There is salvation here, on earth, before death. Not for all of us, of course, that would be silly. But for you, for you in particular, if only you would work hard enough, complete the online courses, put away student politics, grow up, and get with the programme.

This is the most jealously guarded form of knowledge: what we want, and what we would want if we had the time and the resources to figure out the actually existing options, are for our betters to hoard and then navigate around. We get elite fables, in a variety of accents.
