Hi Madam Home Secretary, @ShabanaMahmood surely in Britain a law for one must be a law for all? 1 nation, the UK of GB & NI in which the Law should be blind to Race, Religion, Sex, Status etc. In Britain it is our way to apply the Law equally without fear or favour. So why are you creating a divided society where face coverings don't apply to some women based on their beliefs? Surely a ban on face coverings must be applied equally to everyone. Either everyone has the right to conceal their face or no one has the right to conceal their face? Banning face coverings in public would be a huge move for womens rights too. Same with animal welfare, non stun slaughter was banned on the grounds of cruelty, yet there are exceptions based on someone's beliefs. That is wrong, any non stun slaughter/ partial stun slaughter is cruel & should be banned for everyone on that basis. In Britain we could be proud of our equality under the law. Neither the Monarch nor a peasant had the right to break the law. We have a state religion that is Christian & Protestant, we practice religious tolerance not religious dominance. We live in a democracy not a theocracy. We must not make exemptions or exceptions in law that favour any group. We must not police the population based on their ideological/ religious beliefs. In Britain we expect the Law must remain blind to race, religion, sex & status & as Home Secretary we expect you to defend that principle & reject exemptions/exceptions. We the demos expect the Home Secretary to uphold the tradition of trust & ensure that a Law for one is a Law for ALL. Every Man, Woman & Child must be equal under the law & should not expect exceptions to be made based on their beliefs. No one, no organisation should be exempt from any Law. The British way is law to be applied equally. Ban face coverings for all or don't ban them for everyone. Anything else is wrong, the Law is the Law & there must not be exceptions or exemptions in its application. Thank you. Madam Home Secretary.
