turning nostalgia into a $100B market by building diecarz.com — the global platform for collectible miniature cars. lab: of.domains

design was always about thinking. the way you solve problems, the way you put things together. great talk from katie proves it. the ability to articulate, to decide what should and shouldn’t exist, is the pure core of design as it was intended in the first place. to me, the upcoming era is not for engineers. it is for designers, but designers in their purest form. not people who know figma. people who care, think, make judgments, and can see what should exist before it does. and that can be almost anyone.
Software is increasingly treated as disposable in the AI era. Yet we spend half our waking lives looking at screens! We don’t want to spend that time with zombie products—monotonous, vacant, and uncared for. We want products with soul. 💜 I go deep on this in my talk from @lennysan's Summit: piped.video/watch?v=GLvFTMtw…

the feeling when your daughter joins the platform you're building is impossible to describe. especially when you can give her 4 letter username when it's allowed minimum 5 :)

consumer founders, i want to try an experiment. free, no agenda, one hour of your time. quick context: right now i'm building die carz - a consumer social product for collectors. and most of what we do has nothing to do with cars. why someone comes back. how onboarding changes engagement. how achievements change status. why a collection of 5,000 cars should feel different from 20. how to turn something functional into something people want to play with. somewhere along the way i realized consumer products are the thing i'm most curious about. so here's the experiment: if you're building one - software or hardware - let's talk for an hour. tell me what you're building and what you're stuck on. the problem you've tried to solve and how you solved it. the thing your users do that makes absolutely no sense. i'll share anything useful i've learned from die carz, ask probably too many questions, and maybe spot something - simply because i haven't spent years working around your problem. and i'd love to hear how you see mine problems in return. not consulting. no invoice, no agenda. two founders discussing day-to-day existence. if you're building something interesting, dm me. worst case you lose an hour. best case you see your own product differently.

this is not a wife and husband, brother and sister or daughter and father, and this not their house. grant wood saw this house during a drive through eldon, iowa. saw the gothic window and decided to paint the house. and to show what kind of people might live there he invited his sister nan wood graham and family dantist dr. byron mckeeby. and they never stood together. first he painted the house then had his sister and doctor posed for separate sessions.

the whole thread with examples is sick! love it
We’ve been experimenting with responsive generative video interfaces. Real-time video models are reshaping responsive design. A thread 🧵

working right now on a showcase for the achievements feature we recently added to diecarz. It was so much work, and it was actually the first task when i joined the team in jan. i had to figure out how to properly put custom text on the back of a 3d model

the story of how instinct saved me from failing as a father. my daughter loves shakira, so we bought her tickets to her madrid concert. i’m traveling with her. after we landed, instinct sent me a message with some casual trip prep. and mentioned in passing that i had to accept a ticket transfer. WAAAAT? i got freaked out because i remembered getting the tickets in my email. there was nothing about a transfer or anything else. so i asked instinct where he got this info. in SPAM!! so i found the email, went through the process, and it required a full registration with id verification, phone numbers, and codes, like i was signing a SAFE. it took me 20 minutes to complete the whole transfer. every second of it, i kept imagining myself standing in front of the guy waiting to scan my ticket while i’m still doing the transfer. thanks, instinct.
