Today we mark something worth remembering.
And I believe you have the right to know exactly how she was formed.
By our founding fathers who literally signed their names to treason — knowing a rope was the alternative should they fail in their mission.
Many nations — and the institutions that serve them — would rather that story go untold.
They do not wish to draw attention to the magnitude of our triumph.
But to sanitize it now would be an insult to their legacy and what they built.
The truth is this: in less than 250 years, America has accomplished what other nations needed two millennia to achieve — by incentivizing industrialization, decentralizing power, and running on a code that is, for all practical purposes, immutable.
The noise we make every Fourth of July reminds us: although we may come from different places and speak in different tongues, America is the pursuit of those ideals however imperfectly.
Anyone willing to subscribe to them has a seat at the table.
Remember that, and this won’t become just another forgettable empire.
Remember that, and we celebrate a country reckless enough to trust ordinary people with extraordinary freedom.
