Perhaps the greatest killer of the intellectual is his need to be right. In order to fulfill his calling, which is to be right, his great intellect is put to tremendous use justifying his preferences rather than interrogating them. A tragedy unlike no other.

Good thought. How about making it fun and interactive, like a board game. And maybe let's make it wooden, for the haptics.♟️
We created gyms because modern day work no longer required physical activity. Without exercise, our muscles atrophy. I predict we’ll need gyms for our brains too, once AI starts doing our knowledge work.

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

I've been terribly sad about GoLemon shutting down. For the past two years, I haven't had to go to the market for my bulk grocery shopping. Even during Christmas, I'd order foodstuff from them to take to my parents too. They made my life so much easier. Sure, I had disagreements with their customer service sometimes, but my experience with them was largely good and they always did their best make it right. The last time I ordered from them, I complained about the pepper and they brought a new batch. The person who got in touch with me, Yinka, was incredibly warm and kind. GoLemon was a beautiful company that solved a real problem I lived with every month. It is clear their founders gave their all. I wish the team all the best in their future endeavours. Thank you for your great work, @golemonhq, @uberJJ.

Andrew Wiles worked on Fermat's Last Theorem alone in his attic for 7 years and told nobody except his wife. The problem was 358 years old. Fermat scribbled in a margin in 1637 that he had a proof and no room to write it, and every mathematician since had failed. Wiles saw the statement in a library book at 10 years old. He never let it go. He was a Princeton professor when he started in 1986. He stopped publishing new work and released old results in pieces to hide the silence. He announced it in Cambridge in June 1993, over 3 lectures, revealing the target only at the end. Newspapers ran it worldwide. Then a referee found a gap. One step in the proof did not hold, and the error was fundamental. He spent 14 months trying to close it in public view, with the whole field watching. He was ready to quit. The fix arrived in September 1994. He has said he stared at it in disbelief for 20 minutes. The BBC filmed him describing that moment. He gets a few words out, then turns away from the camera in tears. He kept the greatest result of the century secret so nobody could take it.

I feel for Sasse and find his comments refreshing in the modern environment. But there’s an underlying issue here: We only interview famous men who then lament the time they lost with their families to achieve that fame and power. There are millions of men who chose their families and don’t fall into the trappings of fame. But they don’t get interviewed.
Facing death from stage 4 pancreatic cancer, Former Sen. Ben Sasse shares with CNN's Jake Tapper his life's biggest regret: time he missed with his wife and three kids while traveling for his career. Watch the rest of his interview on CNN's "The Whole Story With Anderson Cooper: Ben Sasse is Going Home: Lessons on Life and Death," Sunday, July 26, at 8pm ET.

I received a phone call from Mr Peter Obi and am deeply grateful for the words of encouragement from His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, in appreciation of our 65 Free Adenotonsillectomy and ENT Surgery Initiative, organized to mark his birthday and give back to our country, Nigeria. As of today, we have screened over 50 patients, categorizing them into surgical and non-surgical cases while also managing other medical conditions where necessary. What has been particularly inspiring is that beneficiaries have come not only from different parts of Lagos but also from Benin, Awka, Enugu, and Owerri. This reminds us that disease knows no boundaries, and quality healthcare should be accessible to everyone, regardless of where they live. Surgeries for the selected patients will commence this week, and beneficiaries will be contacted through the phone number previously used to reach them. Tomorrow is the final day of the free screening, which ends at 4:00 p.m. 📍 Venue: Infirmorium Catholic Hospital, No. 1 Olufemi Street, off Ogunlana Drive, Surulere, Lagos. My sincere appreciation to everyone who has supported this initiative. Together, we are restoring health and giving hope, one patient at a time. Dr. Adefolaseye Adebomi Adebayo ENT Surgeon

Happy birthday Sir @PeterObi At a time when a vast majority of politicians see politics as a means to enrich themselves and their cronies, you are a shining light.

Why not add new, more extended- rapid tournaments instead of tinkering with existing standard time control events? Aim seems to be to reduce chess to an instinctive emotional reaction measuring activity . How can deep ideas be found, analysed, evaluated, implemented if not given any time to think? Reforms (regressive) for the sake of appearing to do something new is not a reform.

I would like to dedicate this win to @GmNaroditsky. It was one of his favourite tournaments. We have played endless bullets and hyperbullets, which definitely contributed to my growth as a player.

Anyone who does not already realize that our government does not care about us is suffering from a peculiar type of blindness. Do you not see the urgency with which they act when their political power is threatened?
