September 21 - 25, 2026 was Falls Prevention Week.
DC Fire And EMS worked with our partners to raise awareness on preventing falls, reducing the risk of falls, and helping older adults live without fear of falling.

In total, there were 1,269 emergency vehicle responses and 261 patient transports.

Two story semi-detached residence with smoke showing from 2nd floor upon arrival.
Small fire in bedroom extinguished quickly with no extension or injuries.
Units proceeding to firefighter rehabilitation and will be in service shortly.

DC Fire and EMS held its monthly All Hands on Prevention at Engine 11, sharing fire safety tips and installing smoke and CO alarms in the community. A $15,000 AARP Community Challenge Flagship Grant helped fund smoke alarms for DC residents.

During today's All Hands On Prevention outreach event in Columbia Heights, @AARPDC presented a check for a $15,000 grant from the AARP Community Challenge to expand access to free smoke alarms/improve fire safety for senior residents.

Significant fire extended into home and on roof, all now extinguished.
2nd alarm called due to mayday, firefighter fell into home from roof to attic and self extricated. Mayday cleared.
