Software is so solved. I built this local Grok Bot clone today, and now it’s my main driver. It runs on its own Linux box. It has features I’ve really wished Codex supported (ping @thsottiaux) like browser control with human handover, and request sudo. Which means it can build and do anything on the internet, even improve itself!
I called it Jelly after @thorstenball coined the term jellyware. I just had to go for a sea creature theme.

This whole idea of my open source local grok bot was heavily inspired by @levelsio who builds his products live in the vps they’re served from.
It can improve itself live. And it now builds and runs all my side projects from the same machine. Anything public gets a Cloudflare tunnel and protection.

It runs locally on the box, and I connect with @Tailscale and then just added it to iOS as a PWA and with a sprinkling of animations it feels 90% of the way to a native app.

So impressive how meta went full VM with muse.
I cracked open Meta's Muse - here are some interesting bits 🔽
1. You can ask it for the entire contents of /opt/ and it will zip it up for you
2. There a ~70 preloaded skills and CLI for everything from spotify to instragram-cli
3. "Spaces" is their website builder that uses Tanstack, Bun and Tailwind. Sharing a site deploys it to Cloudflare
4. It will install anything - like a torrent client
5. It has it's own "Muse DB" with a skill to query its own memories/convos with strict guard rails
6. There are a few things not enabled on my account, including "muse mail" which will give muse an inbox and ability to send email
Generally impressed that you can just do anything - it's not limited or watered down like I would have imagined

Starting a company is an outlier thing. Making it a success then requires you doing many outlier things for many years.
After 15 years of investing, we realised that truly exceptional founders have something impossible to fake; deeply unconventional lives.
We analysed 15,000 founders using five binary signals to measure this: quirky hobbies, early-life signs of exceptionalism, extreme life pivots, unusual geographies, non-linear careers. These sum to give a 0-5 score per founder. Whether someone started coding at age 10, speaks five languages, climbed Everest or quit a safe job to live in Chile, the signal we wanted was deviation from the mean.
Rather than focusing on IQ or EQ, we call this metric the Outlier Quotient, or “OQ”. When forecasting founder success, it turns out that OQ was the single most predictive variable in our entire classification model, trained on ~70 different factors.
Our OQ score had zero correlation with having worked at a top-tier company or attending an elite university. The signals most VCs rely on are noise without signal. The best founders don’t signal like everyone else, don’t think like everyone else and certainly don’t build like everyone else.

The end of flow state
You wake up, excited for the day to start.
You have a feature idea you are looking forward to implement.
You make your coffee. Sit in front of the laptop. Put on that techno set you love.
The house is empty for the next 8 hours. No one can interrupt you.
You open your IDE and begin typing.
Soon, hours pass in minutes.
Everything makes sense.
And before you know it, it’s the end of the day.
You’re looking at today’s work and are content.
You’re energised.
Because you created something you enjoy.
Fast forward.
No more.
You start a new day with an open IDE.
But, instead of pressing those keyboard buttons, you’re staring at a orange text.
“Discombulating”
“Wombanizing”
Minutes feels like hours.
Nothing makes sense.
And before you know it, it’s the end of the day.
You’re tired. Your brain hurts.
It feels like you just finished a ton of meetings.
But, at least you shipped 1,000 lines of code, right?
You should be proud.
But, the only thing you feel is hollow.
