Tommy John passes away at age 83--one of the truly "good guys" I've had the pleasure of interviewing. Past interview with him from a few years back; may he rest in peace.🙏🏻⚾ youtu.be/osJudokahLY?si=p5tj… ⚾️🙏🏻 @Dodgers @ctmascaro @CaptPat48 @pal55arc @ESPNChristine @LeeElci

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Tommy John, a veteran of 26 MLB seasons who helped revolutionize recovery from pitching injuries in the 1970s. John broke in with Cleveland as a 20-year-old in 1963 and made his last appearance for the Yankees at age 46 in 1989, also pitching for the White Sox, Dodgers, Angels, and Athletics. The left-hander won 288 games, made 4 All-Star teams and anchored 3 pennant-winning teams, while twice finishing as a runner-up for the Cy Young Award. His 700 games started rank 8th on the all-time list. After John injured his elbow in 1974, he received the first ulnar collateral ligament replacement surgery from Dr. Frank Jobe. John returned to pitch in 1976, then won 20 games three times in four years from 1977-80. He would go on to pitch 14 of his 26 seasons after the procedure that is now known as Tommy John Surgery, a measure that has helped extend pitching careers in the more than half a century since it was first performed. He was 83.

I've been divorced twice, fired 3 times, released 3 times, traded once and gotten 2 DUIs. Not exactly a highlight reel. But here's what I've learned: You've prepared for your future through your past if you paid attention to it. Since 1998, I've been sober. Since 1999, happily married. The lows make you appreciate the highs. I appreciate happy because I've been sad. Every setback can lead to a comeback if you're willing to learn from it.

Sox haven't played great so far in Sacramento. They haven't swung the bat like we were seeing. Especially with RISP. Yet they're 2-1 with a chance to win the series with Sonny on the hill. It's what good teams do. Win when they're not clicking. Pitching holding them down

Great mindset and reminder! 👇
7/30 🤔’s on a rainy ☔️ morning Going through my 2019 journal and I reread an entry I write after I was fired. My good friend Mike Deegan shared this with me…. @CoachDeegan Final Thoughts:

The discussion of being fired comes with a scarlet letter.  I believe many people suffer in silence thinking they are the only ones going through difficult patches. No one is going to post on Facebook, “Met with my boss today. I have this Quarter to improve or I’m done.”  We think we are alone and that just isn’t the case.

The world needs strong leaders who have standards and values.  If we have the courage to lead issues will develop. I’ve made a choice that I am going to be true to myself as a leader.  That means accusations and confrontation will likely follow. Unfortunately, this may put me and my family in tough situations.  I’ll focus on the next play and respond in a positive manner. I refuse to live in fear and I am not willing to comprise my standards.

Make it a great week,
Mike

P.S. Please consider sharing this article.  My guess is someone in your life may be going through a tough time professionally.  They need to know they are not alone. Make a difference today Love Clint
