$IONQ puts the 10,000 qubits at system level, through interconnect. Konstantinos Karagiannis asks whether the target is 10,000 per chip. Cameron Chehreh, VP of Engineering and CTO for Public Sector at @IonQ_Inc, gives the number a scope. Ten thousand qubits per system, reached by photonic interconnect and scale out. $IONQ has a name for its 256-qubit system. Golden Flower. Cameron Chehreh, VP of Engineering and CTO for Public Sector at @IonQ_Inc, reports the first one is being built. The architecture shift is in the same answer. Ions trapped in a photonic semiconductor QPU, away from the old design, with better than anticipated results on the design side and on the algorithms. He credits John Gamble and his team. Then the moment he calls the inflection. Physicists working alongside engineers, and engineering asking how to reach production scale. The commitment holds. Roadmap to 10,000 qubits on the date already published, and a cryptographically relevant machine before 2030. The Post-Quantum World, Protiviti, September 2. #IonQ #Quantum

I think Cameron misspoke here; the official $IONQ roadmap does not include system photonic interconnects until 200,000 physical qubits.

Hey my friend, one thing worth checking. He never says physical or logical anywhere in the episode. The roadmap headlines are in physical qubits, with the logical count underneath. Read as logical, 2029 sits at 8,000 logical and carries the photonic interconnect. So it can line up.

I think from the context, Konstantinos was talking about physical qubits (“10,000 per chip”) on the next generation QPU. This would be a good follow-up question though
