Today I’d love to really break down this @vangrid_io project.
Most people don’t get it yet. This project is basically trying to turn your phone into a 3D map maker for robots. 🤖
Self-driving systems and robots might be using your phone as their satellite soon.
That’s the vision.

One thing I find interesting about @vangrid_io is how simple the hardware side can be.
You do not need a special device to contribute.
An Android phone can capture real-world spaces from different angles, blur faces and plates on-device, and send the data toward a 3D model for the requester.
The flow is pretty straightforward:
find a funded bounty → capture the location → submit → get paid if accepted.
But the bigger idea is what happens with the data.
→Satellites can see the top.
→Mapping cars can cover the roads.
→Robots still need to understand →what’s happening at ground level.
That’s the gap @vangrid_io is going after.
Android is already live, and iOS is next.
