This book -- Apprentices of Wonder -- is from 1989, reporting on the previous neural net era. It took 35 years after that, but anyone using coding agents should absolutely get the feeling of having apprentices of wonder!

I was reading the Perceptrons book the other day, and, contrary to common belief, it is actually optimistic about Neural Nets, but not in the “single uniform AGI net”, but as components of a larger Multi-Agent system (a “society of mind.”).
