v12.2 is out!
This release replaces our long-standing TinyMCE editor with Tiptap, giving Studio a more modern foundation that we'll continue building on across Directus and Monospace.
It also tightens default permissions, adds sensible limits for imports and image transforms, and includes a number of reliability improvements that make production deployments a little safer by default.

Let's talk about logs 🪵
Nobody has ever bought a CMS because of the activity log. It's the line you scroll past on the pricing page. Table stakes, as they say.
But when you hand an agent write access to production, it quickly becomes the only feature you care about.

- Give it its own user and role. Not your admin token. It shows up in the log as itself, with permissions you scoped, and you can see exactly which collections it touched.

- The log only sees what goes through Directus. Write straight to the database and it's invisible (definitely don't do that)
That's why "every action is logged" sits on directus.com/ai next to the MCP section instead of three clicks deep in the docs.
It's probably the least glamorous thing in Directus. But it's quickly becoming the most important if you want to give an agent write access without holding your breath.

Every idea capture system I have ever tried has failed.
I built a new one that drops ideas into @directus (UI that sits on top of a PostgreSQL database).
Idea capture is fast and easy:
Manually in Directus UI, Chrome Bookmarklet, CLI.
Terminal:
idea <my tutorial idea> --tutorial (tags idea type)
Codex checks the collection 2x per week and forces me to make decisions (keep it or ditch it) so the list actually helps me take action on the ideas rather than get buried and forgotten.

In 2023, decided to give it an upgrade. I was exploring different headless CMS, and @directus was the perfect fit. Designed a schema, imported emojis into Directus, and used readymade APIs & Flows to build emoji pages. No custom backend needed. Directus did the heavy lifting.
