In 2016, a dog slipped into a steep concrete channel in Kazakhstan and couldn’t get back out. A young man climbed down to save it and got stuck too. Strangers along the bank linked arms, made a human chain down the wall, and pulled them both out. Ten years later, Kazakhstan put the whole thing in bronze. But look at the last hand. It reaches past the railing so anyone walking by can grab it and become the next person in the chain. What a great idea for a monument.

Some of you may remember Martyn, the bull who wandered into a Ukrainian military position in 2023 and ended up living with the soldiers for more than a year. Eventually, one of the servicemen took him home from the front. Well, here’s what happened years later. ❤️ That soldier has since turned his home into a refuge for animals rescued from the front. Other servicemen can bring him abandoned animals they encounter and cannot bear to leave behind. Martyn now has plenty of company: donkeys, goats, pigs, raccoons, geese, sheep, lots of cats and other animals, all brought back from the war zone and given a safe home.
