Talking with journalists is cool because you have to make sure you never say anything that could be twisted or taken out of context. But if you take a couple seconds to think about a question, they can just write about you as if you're the most awkward person alive

Yes, clearly! “Without apology” means “unapologetically”, which has quite different connotations to “without an apology”, which literally means someone didn’t apologise.

I know it sounds pedantic, but they really are quite different. It’s like if I said someone is “unashamedly eccentric” or “eccentric, and he’s not even ashamed of it”. They imply different things.
