The Ospreys are dwindling on Long Island. This one stayed for 9/11. Today it posed for me from Lido Beach Passive Nature Area with the World Trade Center in the background. (Probably 20 miles away). @BirdQueens
It seems the American Avocet left the premises (Marine Nature Study Area) at noon. That left me with a few Green Herons, a couple of Yellow-crowned Night Herons, several Great Egrets, an Osprey, a Least Sandpiper and a Royal Tern. 1/2 @BirdQueens
Today, I spent a little time with at least one male and one female Ruby-throated Hummingbird, but I think there were a couple more. At Bayard Cutting Arboretum. @BirdQueens
This weekend, the babies were out. 4 Juvenile Ospreys at Lido Preserve (+ 5 Adults) and 4 Juvenile Bluebirds (+ 4 Adults) at Upland Farm in CSH. Also, Boat-tailed Grackles checking out a noisy Tern overhead. A Towhee out & about and a Halloween Pennant, a 1st for me @BirdQueens
Memorial Day after the rain at Upland Farm Sanctuary in Cold Spring Harbor. Baltimore Orioles M&F, Indigo Buntings, Eastern Bluebirds, Common Yellowthroats & Northern Yellow Warblers. @birdqueens
Spent an hour at the Marine Nature Study Area in Oceanside this (Saturday)morning. Here are a few friends: Great Egret (2), Greater Yellowlegs (6), Yellow-crowned Night Heron (3), Glossy Ibis (4). Plus dozens of Purple Martins, several Sandpipers, 2 Ospreys. @BirdQueens
A few spring things in the park today: So many Common Yellowthroats, Blue-eyed Vireo and the Blackburnian Warbler, who was performing for everyone. #birdcpp
Success...after a 3 year search, I saw 3 Tricolor Herons today on Captree Island. Two were close to the road. Plus, there 19 Great Egrets and 9 Snowy's & a Great Blue Heron. @BirdQueens 1/2
