BREAKING: Hartford Public Schools FORENSIC AUDIT FINDINGS
Hartford families, educators, and community members deserve to hear this directly:
The State-commissioned forensic audit states Connecticut State Department of Education:
“CLA did not identify evidence of fraud, misappropriation of District assets, improper payments, or unsupported, duplicate, or unauthorized adjusting journal entries.”
Since becoming Superintendent, I have received 6 reports, including this audit. And all reports CONFIRMED what I’ve been sharing from day 1: “We have a structural deficit and we need sustainable funding and resources that match our children’s needs.” The audit identifies significant financial pressures from rising costs and expiring grant funding.
Despite these challenges, our students and educators continue to deliver progress:
🎓 An 85.3% four-year graduation rate (the highest in Hartford Public Schools history)
📚 K–5 literacy improvement, with students reading at or above expectations increasing from 41% to 49%.
📈 historic math achievement as we continue raising expectations and strengthening instruction.
These achievements represent students moving closer to their dreams, and educators and families working together to make it possible.
Ahead of tomorrow’s State Board of Education presentation, our community should know: Hartford Public Schools has momentum, our children have extraordinary potential, and I remain committed to earning your trust through transparency, action, and results.

YOUR voice matters. Ask our STATE LEADERS AND ELECTED OFFICIALS to fully fund the support Hartford Public Schools is requesting so we can deliver what our students need.
We have consistently raised the need to address our structural deficit.
Over the last decade, Hartford Public Schools has cut more than $200 million dollars and lost more than 600 jobs. Behind those reductions are fewer adults supporting children, fewer resources for educators, and fewer opportunities for students.
We cannot keep asking our children to absorb the cost of an unresolved funding problem. We will no longer accept balancing the budget on the backs of kids.
Ask our State leaders to provide the sustainable funding we are requesting, and give us the resources to do what is best for students.
