If article 19(1)(a) allows @SauravDassss to speak like this against @DelhiPolice? Isnt it defamatory? Isnt it intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace (Section 352 BNS) or criminal intimidation ?

🇺🇸🇨🇦 Trump pauses 50% tariffs on Canada Trump has put the planned 50% tariffs on Canadian goods on hold for three days, saying Washington and Ottawa have reached a deal that is still awaiting final documents. The interesting part is what Trump is linking to the deal: Keystone XL. The pipeline was cancelled under the Biden administration and could now be revived, potentially giving Canada greater access to U.S. refining and export infrastructure while strengthening North American energy integration. For Canada, this is more than a tariff dispute. Energy, market access and the future of the USMCA relationship are increasingly being negotiated together. For now, the 50% tariff is paused. The next three days will show whether this is a genuine trade breakthrough or simply another step in a much larger negotiation. 🇱🇧 Israeli flags have been spotted inside southern Lebanon, including along areas where Israeli forces are currently deployed. UNIFIL has confirmed seeing the flags and said their presence violates UN Security Council Resolution 1701. For Hezbollah, the optics are especially damaging. The group built its identity around protecting southern Lebanon from Israel. Seeing Israeli flags in territory where Hezbollah once operated freely is a powerful image of how much the balance has shifted. Israel says its forces are staying in the area to prevent Hezbollah from rebuilding its military infrastructure. The unresolved issue is whether this remains a temporary security zone or develops into a longer-term Israeli presence. Trump says there are no talks with Iran and that the U.S. naval blockade remains in place. At the same time, he says the Strait of Hormuz is open, operating and has been cleared of mines. Iran is taking a very different position. Tehran says the strait will remain closed until Washington meets its conditions, leaving the two sides far apart despite earlier efforts to reach a broader agreement. For now, the real pressure point is Hormuz. The U.S. wants to demonstrate that it can keep the waterway functioning under blockade, while Iran is using access to the strait as its main leverage against Washington. With diplomacy stalled, the Strait of Hormuz remains at the centre of the U.S.-Iran confrontation. Israel is being blamed for another strike inside Syria, this time at the Abu al-Duhur airfield in Idlib. Eight strikes reportedly hit the runway and storage facilities, with no casualties reported. Israel has not officially claimed the attack. What makes this strike interesting is the timing. Turkey had recently begun preliminary work to rehabilitate the airfield, which had been out of service for years. The base is only about 70 km from the Turkish border. For Israel, the concern appears to be less about the airfield itself and more about what a rebuilt Syrian military infrastructure could eventually become. For Turkey, however, rebuilding Syria’s military is part of Ankara’s growing role in the country. That puts Israel and Turkey on increasingly sensitive ground inside post-Assad Syria. Trump’s latest remarks on Oman come as Muscat is trying to mediate between Washington and Tehran over the Strait of Hormuz. Oman is not a party to the war. It has instead been one of the few regional channels through which Iran and the West can still communicate, while Tehran and Muscat have been working on arrangements for commercial shipping through the strait. Trump’s statement shows the problem with that diplomatic role: Washington wants control over the terms of any Hormuz arrangement, while Oman is negotiating directly with Iran. A deal reached through Muscat that does not meet U.S. demands could undermine Washington’s leverage over the reopening of the waterway. Oman is also a long-standing U.S. security partner, making Trump’s willingness to publicly threaten military action against it particularly significant. The immediate issue is Hormuz, but the larger concern is what happens to regional diplomacy when a traditional U.S. partner is itself threatened for pursuing an independent mediation channel. Trump says Kim Jong Un has responded to his request for talks, but has not revealed what Kim said. Trump has also ordered a sharp reduction in U.S.–South Korea military exercises, calling them costly and unnecessarily hostile toward North Korea. The two developments are closely connected. Trump appears to be reducing one of Pyongyang’s longstanding objections while trying to reopen the direct channel that produced his unprecedented meetings with Kim during his first term. South Korea has more to lose from a reduction in exercises than Washington does. The drills are not simply political signalling; they are used to maintain operational readiness between U.S. and South Korean forces. Kim’s response will therefore matter more than Trump’s announcement. If Pyongyang wants sanctions relief, changes to U.S. military deployments or concessions on exercises before returning to negotiations, Washington will have to decide how much it is willing to give. Muscat is trying to negotiate with Tehran over the Strait of Hormuz, while Abu Dhabi is now engaging directly with Muscat. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed met Oman’s Sultan Haitham in Abu Dhabi on August 17 as the regional pressure around Hormuz continues to grow. Officially, the meeting covered bilateral relations and regional security, but it comes at a particularly sensitive moment for Oman’s Iran diplomacy. Oman has traditionally been one of the few Gulf states able to maintain working channels with both Iran and the West. Its role becomes even more important when the issue is Hormuz, through which a major share of global energy shipments normally passes. For the UAE, keeping the waterway open is not an abstract security issue. Abu Dhabi has already accused Iran of attacking ADNOC-linked vessels in the Strait and has called for the waterway to be fully reopened, while still backing diplomatic efforts. The UAE-Oman meeting therefore puts Abu Dhabi and Muscat in the same diplomatic picture: Oman is talking to Tehran, while the UAE is trying to protect its own maritime and economic interests as those talks unfold. Trump is now pointing to India’s 2024 election as an example while pushing for stricter voter identification rules in the United States. He says India’s Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar questioned how the US can conduct elections without a valid photo ID. India’s system does have a strong identity check at the polling station. But there is an important difference between having photo identification and having one specific voter ID card. EPIC is the main identification document, but the Election Commission also accepts several alternative documents, including Aadhaar, driving licence, PAN card and passport. India’s 2024 Lok Sabha election had around 64.6 crore voters, making it a useful comparison when discussing how a country manages identification on such a massive scale. Trump is using that comparison to build support for the SAVE America Act, which seeks stricter voter-ID and citizenship requirements in US federal elections. The interesting part is not simply whether India uses ID. It is how two very different electoral systems approach voter verification. Trump has instructed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to substantially reduce U.S.-South Korea joint military exercises, citing the cost of the drills and arguing that they send a hostile signal to North Korea. The decision comes just as the annual Ulchi Freedom Shield exercises are scheduled to begin, with around 18,000 South Korean troops participating. Trump also linked the move to South Korea’s refusal to support U.S. efforts toward denuclearizing Iran. For Seoul, these exercises are not simply symbolic. They are a key part of maintaining operational readiness with U.S. forces against North Korea. Scaling them back could therefore affect the alliance’s deterrence posture, even if the exercises themselves continue in a reduced form. Trump’s approach also reflects his broader preference for using personal diplomacy with Kim Jong Un alongside pressure on U.S. allies.
