being neurodivergent can be such a strange combination of extremes. you can be exceptionally good at something complicated that everyone else finds intimidating, then completely fall apart over the tiny task everyone assumes should be effortless. people see you successfully handle something incredibly difficult and naturally assume the โ€œeasyโ€ stuff must be even easier for you. sometimes itโ€™s the exact opposite. the difficulty of a task has nothing to do with how simple it looks from the outside.

one of the most heartbreaking parts of autistic and adhd masking is learning to distrust your own happiness. you get so used to being told that your excitement is excessive, your reactions are too much, or your enthusiasm is socially inappropriate that eventually positive emotions themselves start feeling dangerous. you learn to stay small, quiet, and emotionally neutral because some part of you believes that being visibly happy is just another opportunity to do something โ€œwrong.โ€

Undiagnosed ADHD symptom nobody talks about: Accidentally adopting the exact accent, cadence, slang, and hand gestures of whoever you spoke to for more than 15 minutes. Itโ€™s not fake or weird, itโ€™s just subconscious neurodivergent mirroring trying desperately to keep up with the social wavelength.

please stop invalidating neurodivergent people with โ€œeveryone experiences that.โ€ sure, everyone might experience some of these things occasionally. that isnโ€™t the same as experiencing them constantly, intensely, or in a way that interferes with your ability to function. the question isnโ€™t whether youโ€™ve ever struggled with something. itโ€™s how often, how severely, and how much it affects your life. occasional difficulty and chronic impairment are not the same experience.

men mocking single women with cats by saying โ€œyour cats are going to eat your corpseโ€ is such a strange threat to make when history has given women plenty of reasons to be more concerned about what happens to female bodies after death at the hands of men. if i have to choose who gets near my body when iโ€™m gone, iโ€™ll take the cats. at least i know what their intentions are.

No one talks about how CPTSD can make positive imagination feel unsafe. Itโ€™s so easy to imagine everything that could go wrong, but imagining happiness, safety, or pleasure can feel dangerous too. Sometimes your brain trusts fear more than it trusts hope.
