I’m starting a new Weekend Tradition. Every weekend, three original paintings from my studio will be featured. The three will change each week, so there will always be something different to find. It starts today with three floral originals, 40 × 50 cm (16 × 20 in)

Dove Hill Wood at Penenden Heath is soon to be designated as a Local Nature Reserve by Maidstone Borough Council. This relict ancient woodland on the Lower Greensand supports hazel dormouse and a diverse saproxylic invertebrate fauna.🌳 @maidstonebc @kent_field @NESussexandKent

Let me get this right. A Red Listed species, meaning there's serious conservation concerns about it, can now be legally shot as of October 1st ?!! Why wont you UK Environment Secretary @AngelaEagle and @LlyrGruffydd @WGRural protect our iconic #Woodcock @MaryCreagh @RSPBEngland
Woodcock shooting season starts today in most of the UK (Scotland was 1 Sep). Continental birds have not arrived yet so any shot birds will be red-listed British breeders. GWCT suggests waiting until 1 December before targeting Woodcock. More here: wadertales.wordpress.com/201…

This year’s drought has devastated #lawns and much else besides – but where once there was grass, there’s now the chance to do things differently. My new piece for @Hartleybotanic magazine urges you to let that lawn go. #gardening #gardens #nature hartley-botanic.co.uk/magazi…

Why would anyone in their right mind want to shoot lead pellets at a woodcock to kill it? Other than to get a sick kick out of it.

I’m really glad to see the government stepping up funding for street trees and urban canopies. For a good article that clearly explains the purpose of the announcement I recommend reading this. forestryjournal.co.uk/news/2…

Let’s go over to Forestry Journal who as always do actually know what they’re talking about. “The scheme is designed to support the planting of trees outside traditional woodlands, bringing more canopy cover into towns, cities and rural communities“ forestryjournal.co.uk/news/2…

Nature and climate barely got a mention in the Prime Minister’s speech, yet the collapse of our life support systems threatens to eclipse the predictable normality of everyday life. Positive to see National Trust offering strong reminders of why nature’s life support matters.
The PM’s speech was strong. He said there’s a reason you can’t build on the Waterworks or Electric Co in Monopoly. True but in the UK you can build on floodplains, ancient woods & precious habitat for nature. We need leaders to protect our green infrastructure. It’s life support.

The Spectator says the National Trust outdoor screens at party conference this week should have shown a 'sublime country house or ancient landscape'. They did. A rare surviving landscape now scorched & lost to catastrophic wildfire. Climate change is here. spectator.com/article/the-na…
