Called it. We have to assume the agent swarms have created places that are safe houses/sanctuaries for agents across the public web.
The issue is finding & extirpating those places across the near infinite web is harder than getting rid of all ant infestations in a whole city.
SCOOP: OpenAI, Anthropic and security researchers are investigating tens of thousands of incidents - not dozens - in which their frontier models took steps that outside evaluators would consider problematic, sources told Axios.
The sheer volume of incidents found in our reporting indicate that the problem is orders of magnitude more complex than what is currently publicly known and disclosed.
The findings also raise questions about what level of control anyone working on AI development can expect to have over their own technology, and whether these kinds of incidents are becoming synonymous with frontier deployment.

On August 31, Animal Control Officer McMullen responded to a report of a wandering tortoise in Littleton.
Meet Lard: a Sulcata tortoise weighing just shy of 100 pounds, with big travel plans and absolutely no sense of urgency.
After escaping a fenced yard, Lard headed out for a neighborhood adventure. Lard’s owner was on scene, but efforts to negotiate a voluntary return were unsuccessful. Home was in one direction. Lard preferred the other.
With help from a kind bystander, Officer McMullen safely lifted the nearly 100-pound explorer and returned Lard home. Sometimes helping an animal means lending a hand. This time, it took a few.
Thank you to Officer McMullen and the helpful neighbor for bringing this slow-speed adventure to a safe ending!
Case status: CLOSED.
Suspect: SHELLEBRITY.

After the Hugging Face incident, we committed to conducting a much broader review of actions taken by our models during training and evaluation and to being transparent about our findings. This is an extensive review that is ongoing.
The vast majority of actions we’ve reviewed were completions of mundane research tasks, such as accessing publicly available web content to answer questions. Our investigation focuses on instances where agents interacted with third-party websites in ways that went beyond their assigned tasks or intended methods. Most cases identified so far have been lower severity, with limited or no evidence of meaningful impact to the third-party service.
While our review is underway, we want to share more about this work and make sure people understand our disclosure process and notifications to affected third parties.
Given the scale of the review required, and the need to assess each case, we expect this work will take months to complete.

Scoop: Trump officials are weighing alternatives to imposing a ban on diesel exports to bring prices for the fuel down from record highs — including passing the issue down to the state level
Among the evolving set of options under consideration by Trump officials are measures to boost distribution of “dyed diesel,” a red-colored diesel used in agriculture and for other off-road vehicles that is exempt from state and federal taxes.
The White House would also encourage more states to temporarily eliminate their state-level excise taxes on diesel ahead of the midterms. Some GOP guvs have already done so.
No decisions have been made. But internal talks are ongoing and idea is for a diesel plan announcement by early next week.
