Today's art analysis: "Paradox" .
Quick Intro
Launched in May 2025, Paradox is a 2,600-piece collection that combines PFPs and design.
The Art
The art combines hand-designed backgrounds with AI-designed characters in a style that could be described as ultra-realistic anime. One important element is the strong presence of grain-dot texture, which gives the characters a retro feel.
The collection was designed to work as a PFP, and it performs really well in that sense. The characters are centered, the contrast is strong, and the style is easily recognizable. This is one of the reasons why I chose to make all the characters face forward.
The Characters
There are 151 base characters divided into 6 classes, plus a few 1/1s. Among them, you can find original characters as well as references to pop culture, especially from the 80s and 90s. There are a strong variety that includes male and females characters, humans, robots, creatures and more.
The Backgrounds
In my opinion, the strongest aspect of the collection is the backgrounds, and they are what make Paradox unique.
When I worked on each one of them, I approached them as individual pieces. Every background should also work as a standalone artwork, while the biggest challenge was making sure it still worked as a background and didn’t take the spotlight away from the character, but instead added atmosphere and variety.
The Traits
Unlike other collections, traits in Paradox are rare and scarce.
My idea was not to generate simple variations (which, in many cases, end up feeling meaningless and non-sense combinations) but to use traits as a way to add rarity to the cards.
A fun detail is that every trait was manually adjusted to match the skin tone of each character. This was an extremely precise process, since literally no two characters have the exact same skin color.
Conclusion
Hottest PFP ever. Grab one, mfer.
