I know I blabber about coaching mishaps a lot. It’s just one of the strangest things ever that coaches can work 18-hour days to be the best schemers alive, only for them and their analysts to botch the most basic decisions at the worst times. Cost Cowboys and Texans dearly.

Yup. One odd wrinkle is defensive penalty. You prob call it at 12ish secs and run your 3rd down play. Would give you one play post-penalty. If it fails, FG as time expires. As we saw, waiting those 2 secs makes all the difference. Cowboys did everything wrong imaginable.

1) Ball on 35 meant one pass from FG range.
2) No return meant zero time off clock. Time for 2 plays, not 1.
Potential season-defining decision from Texans in loss to Colts. You can’t kick a touchback when the opponent needs a FG to win. Colts getting into FG range off a touchback was likelier than a big return. Some teams seem to severely underrate touchback rules in their analytics.

Can’t overstate the significance of this Vikings comeback win vs. Packers. Bears are on deck and it’s hard to imagine Murray playing after concussion posturing. 0-2 start was looking pretty likely. Flores is a beast!

Steelers-Falcons was weird, but Rodgers looked fantastic today. Infinitely bigger effort to stretch field. Threw some dots. Between a long PI, a should-have-been long PI, drops and very makable catches, Rodgers truly could’ve had 150+ more passing yds.

Who else can’t wait for Nick Saban’s next rant?… For record, regardless of what critics say on when he retired/capitalized pre-NIL… I have utmost respect for his career. And generally have loved his commentary. But results say he should dial back SEC bias.

Nothing to do with today since Whittingham is at Michigan now, tho doesn’t hurt when few picked them. Who knows how he’ll do long term in NIL era against big brands. But as of now, Whittingham has maximized his talent as much as any coach in country during my lifetime.

This is still 100% true. But credit to Underwood and Michigan for the way they have responded. Whittingham’s teams are so, so tough. Not surprising to this after they got buried. A lot of the smart people were on them to cover if not win. We’ll see in the 2nd half.
Clip comes off much worse than anticipated when it’s often the opposite. Question is framed poorly, but terrible vibes from a QB nonetheless. Nobody’s job is permanent, so how is the response anything other than needing to play better.

There are many better examples, but ability of NFL players to land 2 feet near sideline/endline feels like one of the skills in all of sports that us regulars most take for granted. Crazy enough when WRs do it after needing 1 foot lower levels. Here’s a DB doing it to win a game.

Two elite coaches far from their best in Seahawks-Patriots. Maye obviously was awful and can’t make those mistakes, but the usually aggressive Vrabel was super conservative until late. Pats were seemingly waiting for Lock to fail.
