TRADER TO TRADERS: Before you take a risk, ask yourself: What can I lose? What can I gain? Can I survive the loss? Do I have a plan? If you can't answer those questions… You're not taking a calculated risk. You're guessing. Growth requires courage. But discipline tells you how much risk to take. Don't fear risk. Learn to manage it. Would you rather live with calculated risk or permanent comfort?

Courage gets you in the game, risk management keeps you in it.

Calculated risk is trading. Random risk is gambling. The difference is having a plan before the trade, not after it. 📊

Risk itself isn’t the problem, unmanaged risk is.

Risk itself isn’t the problem unplanned risk is. Knowing your downside before you enter changes the entire trade.

"Can I survive the loss?" gets more useful when I check the rest of the book, not just the new ticket. A long on $EURUSD and another dollar-short idea can look like separate trades while both fail on the same dollar move. I mark shared exposure before the session, then decide whether the second idea adds a new opportunity or just makes the first loss larger. That changes the answer before the order goes in.

How do you personally decide the line between “I can survive this loss” and “this is too much for my account right now”?
