your agent writes you a long draft. you have 8 things to say about it. wyd? pile them all into the next chat turn? write them inline in the markdown file? i built Tether instead: leave comments like a Google Doc, agent reads & replies in threads Free, open source, ✨pretty✨

Renaissance Internet Unc......the new Friendly Ambitious Nerd......
Today was honestly incredibly overwhelming because I was adopted by a bunch of super cool renaissance internet uncs Like I’m living in a new city, with no investor funding, running purely on belief, paying rent with my past summer internship money because my parents won’t support me financially, just “divorced” my cofounder (no bad blood) but continuing to work on my mission, ON MY 2ND GAP SEMESTER from a university I’m probably now estranged with plus a bunch of other kids judging me, other youngsters getting into yc and I’m trying not to be jealous of the prestige and focus on my mission, managing 500 bajillion tabs digging into an idea I’ve seen no one do, trying to patterns in history to see if there are any hints as to why it might work out, knowing I should be building instead, but there’s so much to learn and so much to do, AND IM DOING IT ALL ALONE I’m alone, and I’ve been alone in my ways and beliefs and mindset for a very long time now, from high school to university to internships And to a degree, I’ve learnt that my loneliness can be a good thing because it means I’m special But today, I got to be a little less alone With a chance encounter on an airplane, leading to the most heartwarming introduction I’ve ever been honored with, I am now in a part of the Internet with people I didn’t know I was searching for my entire life This is all incredibly overwhelming for the best reason because I feel like I’ve just discovered the minecraft mushroom island of humanity I’m 20 years old, I had to take a walk outside to digest everything that has happened in the past few days, and while I’m terrified on so many levels, I cannot help but be thankful for my new friends :)) I am living the dream because I am chasing my dreams and today was a beautiful example of exactly that Thank you @maebichka for introducing me to so many ambitious friendly nerds 🫶

this is great case closed > Post-rationalism is about practical rationality, combining the study of rationality with the study of man. Through understanding human biases and the way the human mind works we can achieve our rational goals far better than by directly pursuing them under assumptions of perfect classical rationality.

> There was a now-defunct mailing list / meetup group known as Optimeta, which included me and Divia, along with Steve Omohundro, Nevin Freeman, Nick Tarleton, Yoni Donner, Justin Shovelain, Matt Bell, Marcello Herreshoff, Luke Grecki, and other assorted folks in the rationality/futurist community. We definitely had explicit conversations with Will Newsome et al around this time period. Post-rationality was first coined in April 2011 by Yoni, and various folks from the list adopted it. Several descriptions included: > “Post-rationalism sees the classical view as naive, not because rationality is not an ideal (as many people wrongly claim with statements such as rationality opposes emotions and rationalists are cold inhuman decisionmakers), but because in its classic form, it simply does not work for real people. > Post-rationalism is about practical rationality, combining the study of rationality with the study of man. Through understanding human biases and the way the human mind works we can achieve our rational goals far better than by directly pursuing them under assumptions of perfect classical rationality.” From a comment in the above.

is there a canonical way to use an agent as an api? eg you want an agent to poke around on the internet and deliver you some structured data is it just pi agents on modal?

I’d be very excited to find new spaces where this view is the norm, do you have examples? People in our scene used to be scattered in many other places. They found each other in a game-recognize-game kind of way, and I want to find all the others and put them in touch.

I keep hearing arguments that “it’s not a thing” and they strike me as low ambition and low appreciation - maybe the whole scene is not a thing, but there’s obviously a common approach of good epistemics and taking subjectivity seriously that leads to aliveness and wholeness

I think non-rat contributions of tpot/postrat twitter cluster thusly: 1. Buddhists and analytical contemplatives 2. Practitioners, therapists, and coaches 3. Community builders!

this came up in a chat with @QiaochuYuan, he also pointed out that rather than having very defined "main figures", the scene is very bottom-up and a lot of important insights bubble up from many people and move through riffing and refinement

we might need a name other than tpot (mop-coded) or postrat (implied former LW) for geeks in the scene who didn't read the sequences people come at it through Chapman, vgr, Vervaeke, tools for thought, Christopher Alexander, self-healing like IFS or Focusing, pragmatic Dharma
Replying to @christineist
this is really helpful for defining tpot/post rat twitter!! it is fully unhelpful to have a name that anchors on rats when in reality it’s more about wholeness, meditation, the subjective and illegible, finding meaning, etc
