I completely agree with @dhh. Funny enough, I also wrote code (c++) for 25 years. I also enjoyed it tremendously, but I stopped in January 2026. I have no regrets. Face reality people, and embrace the future.

Something I am observing a lot right now is an avalanche of more or less open source projects in robotics, mostly tools (guilty!) I think what will make the difference between slop and projects worth using is persistence, attention span and long term support.

tested Jev as a real-time robotics policy in MuJoCo it struggled at first, so i split each update into two calls: decide what to do next, then decide how to move the arm and gripper Jev doesn’t accept images, it gets simplified geometry and contacts as text here

By any reasonable metric — market share, revenue growth, model capability — the two of you have a duopoly on frontier intelligence. You’ve also claimed the lead is widening because of recursive self-improvement. I don’t see what you see in the lab. If the unreleased models are scary enough that you think you should slow down, I support your decision to be responsible. But stop pretending you need anyone else’s permission. Stop pretending antitrust law has to be suspended so you can form a cartel. Stop pretending you need a regulatory approval process that supersedes product liability. Stop pretending METR is independent when it is intertwined with Anthropic’s investors and staff. Stop pretending you need those same evaluators to police competitors who aren’t even at the frontier. Most of all, stop pretending the motivation to slow down is purely altruistic. You face massive product-liability exposure if your products enable a truly damaging cyberattack. The market already punishes models that behave in unpredictable or unauthorized ways. After the Hugging Face episode, it is simply good business for OpenAI and Anthropic to trade some raw power for reliability and predictability. Call it alignment if you want. It is also just giving customers what they want. Pacing the frontier would also create breathing room for a more intelligent conversation about regulation than Bernie Sanders’ “shut it all down.” China is very unlikely to join a global agreement, as you know, and that has to be taken into account as well. So go ahead and pace the frontier. You are the ones setting it. The easiest way not to build superintelligence is for you to agree not to build it. Demanding your preferred regulatory framework as the price of that will look like blackmail of the public and the political system. So just do it. If you do, you’ll buy goodwill for the next conversation. If you don’t, we’ll know this was just another bid for regulatory capture — or an election-season psyop.

GPT-6 Astra has just beaten a standard game of Factorio with enemies enabled after nearly 44 hours in-game time, and 4 days 11 hours on his Codex /goal clock. At API pricing, logs indicate it would've cost about $4500. It could probably be 50x cheaper by offloading more to Luna and providing some standard scripts for common tasks. My next test might be Astra coaching Muse Spark or Qwen 3.8 27B into solving a random seed, now that we have successful logs to review.

Very funny that xAI was created to stop Anthropic which was created to stop OpenAI which was created to stop Google which would've actually never developed ASI because it was afraid of cannibalizing its ads revenue from search.

As a software developer, I had a good run. The first time I typed a simple computer program I was probably 10, in the late 80s. I started coding "for real" probably in 2000. I always was a very prolific developer. In the last 10 years I developed multiple OSS applications, mostly for fun, sometimes for profit. The last time I coded manually was January 2026 and I know that I will never go back. Frontier models are better than me in almost any way. Maybe I still have better "taste", but it is a matter or time. I am not upset, nor bitter, but a little melancholic, I admit. A skill I was good at, that made me feel a bad ass occasion, is fully commodities. But I look forward with excitement, nonetheless.
