Dan Campbell has a special spot in his heart for high school football. I asked the Lions head coach if he had a message for players and coaches beginning their seasons. His answer was as fantastic as you’d expect it to be.

Easily a top 3 game that i’ve ever covered. This game brought all the emotion, energy and two great communities together. Spring Lake came into last night, ready to spoil Grand Havens night. They were physical up front and have a senior heavy backfield. The defense was flying to the ball, suffocating the Buc’s offense at times. Grand Haven showed much resilience that hasn’t been seen in quite some time. Despite being down at half, they executed very well at big moments. QB Easton Hints led a 2 minute drill with 1 timeout left to send the game into OT.

Just a reminder. Summer rules kick off tomorrow. 15 dates. Only 7 can be 7 on 7. Shoulder pads are only allowed for individuals at college camps on college campuses run by college coaches. No shoulder pads for team camps on college campuses. Four player rule becomes 7…….

Back then: Walked or biked everywhere Recess was long and unsupervised Neighborhoods were the playground Boredom = movement Now: Car rides door-to-door Shortened or lost recess Screens replace exploration Movement is “extra,” not assumed The scary part isn’t that kids don’t want to move — it’s that the environment quietly removed the need to. Which means: Athletic development today isn’t about creating better athletes. It’s about restoring what used to happen naturally. Or said another way: Kids haven’t changed. The world around them has — and movement paid the price.

High school football in Michigan is underrated. Half of the QBs left in the CFB playoffs played high school football in the Great State of Michigan!
