The Sisters of Divine Providence ran a safe, affordable residence for women in Manhattan for 123 years. As their order aged and shrank, they sold the building for $22.5 million. New York law required approval of the sale. James approved it, but more than two years later, the remaining $19.3 million still hasn't been released. Their lawyer says the sisters want to use the money to care for aging members in Kentucky and continue their other charitable ministries.
