We’re getting rid of uncertainty & instability for locally employed doctors. It brings stability for visa holders and doctors stuck in the bottleneck. It brings an end to reapplying for your own job every 6 - 12 months. We are holding the govt’s feet to the fire on this deal.

No doctor should be left in limbo. For too long, many locally employed doctors have been working on fixed-term contracts with little certainty about their future. Now, following the June 2026 deal, permanent contracts will become the default for locally employed doctors. It's a major campaign win that helps bring greater security, protection and stability to thousands of doctors. More info

This needs wholesale change. That doesn’t mean tweaking thresholds here and there. It means student loan forgiveness, including for doctors w/ disproportionate debts. The current system works by taxing working class kids who have academic ability, ambition & drive to the hilt.

London has become vastly more expensive, but doctors’ London weighting allowance has not increased in more than 20 years. Doctors working in Inner London receive just £2,162 a year - the same amount as in 2005. In Outer London, doctors receive £527. In fringe areas, it is only £149 for the entire year. These are fixed amounts, regardless of grade. Meanwhile, Agenda for Change staff rightly receive percentage-based London weighting payments ranging from £5,794 to £8,746 in Inner London, £4,870 to £6,137 in Outer London and £1,346 to £2,270 in fringe areas. Doctors should not continue to be left behind. Our team of eight doctors is standing in the BMA South Thames Resident Doctors Committee elections. If elected, we will enter into dispute within three months if there is no movement on increasing doctors’ London weighting.
