Save the date for a moment that brings the global democracy community back into the same room. On October 1st, 2026, we will convene the GDC Global Forum in Athens, gathering partners at the Athens Conservatoire Amphitheatre and online via livestream on the GDC YouTube channel. This is the moment we have been building toward. Over recent months, GDC partners across Africa, the Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific have come together through regional forums and webinars to map the challenges, surface innovations, and define priorities shaping democracy in their contexts. As the final regional forum concluded in Seoul, a clear convergence is already emerging across continents: the challenge facing democracy is no longer only about institutions, but about whether people still trust that democracy works for them. The Global Forum is designed to take this shared diagnosis forward. Not to repeat it, but to act on it. It will connect regional realities to collective action, transform diverse insights into a global agenda, and create a space where collaboration, co-creation, and shared ownership are not aspirations but practice. Through interactive formats and cross-regional exchanges, the Forum will demonstrate what becomes possible when organisations choose alignment over fragmentation. Held in conjunction with @ForumAthens on 29&30 September, this will be a key moment for the coalition to put its collective work on the table and shape what comes next. Three days from now, we open a conversation the Americas urgently need. Across the region, civic actors are navigating a moment defined by tightening political pressure, shrinking space for participation, and an information environment increasingly shaped by distortion. At the same time, the global funding landscape that once sustained democratic action is shifting beneath our feet. The result is a profound test of how civil society adapts, protects its role, and reimagines the foundations of democratic resilience. This Friday, we gather for the webinar “From Dependency to Resilience: Rethinking Democratic Action in the Americas Amid Shifting Funding Landscapes.” This session marks the start of the #GDCAmericasRegionalMonth’s programming and is designed for organizations confronting these transitions head‑on. Together, we will examine emerging models of sustainability, new approaches to collaboration, and the creative strategies communities are using to stay effective under constraint.
