The dead need more care than the living. They cannot care for themselves.

We should also, instead of jumping to conclusions about how Asians "want to be white," maybe ask: what incentive or even "reason" would Asians (in the west, I assume) have for identifying as "people of color"?

Gen X, I suspect, was the last generation of Ayn Rand fanatics. My students have never heard of her *shrug.*
"The Fountainhead “is so dense and complex,” marvels Brad Pitt, “it would have to be a six-hour movie.” (The 1949 film version already has a running time of two hours.) Christina Ricci claims that The Fountainhead is her favorite book because it taught her that “you're not a bad person if you don't love everyone.” Rob Lowe boasts that Atlas Shrugged is “a stupendous achievement, and I just adore it.” And any boyfriend of Eva Mendes, the actress says, “has to be an Ayn Rand fan.”" thenation.com/article/archiv…

I'm a college professor, but thinking isn't important as we write.
I'm a former writer. Professors aren't as important as we think.

The obvious, non-chauvanistic answer is D. You get the long and deep literary traditions in Arabic (classical Arabic), Urdu/Hindi (Sanskrit/Pali), Chinese (classical Chinese), Japanese, and Korean. There is no comparison anywhere else on this map.

The deck is stacked in favor of D if we're talking books. Which is a downstream consequence of writing. Which is a downstream consequence of state-building.

Now, if you consider books writing/states/"civilization" to be bad, that's a different kind of assessment altogether.

The primary effect of Latin American mixing (mestizaje/mesticagem) is basically... more complicated racial hierarchies. We see this tendency in the United States around, e.g., "wasian" > "Blasian."
I think American race relations would be probably improved if we adopted Latin style racial dynamics rather than maintaining the English racial stratification and separation we inherited. Black Americans should stop seeing ourselves as "African American" and rather just see ourselves as "American" like how black Brazilians just consider themselves "Brazilian." There is zero purpose in maintaining attachment to a continent our ancestors departed 4 centuries ago and we have no material connection to. Black Americans should probably be more intermarried than we already are. If racial barriers were more diffused post-slavery, we'd have more ethnically ambiguous Heritage American black people. The fact black Americans are still so physically reminiscent of continental Africans is a vestige of US of racial oppression. While this absolutely does not "solve" race relations, it does obscure racial boundaries greatly. One of the reasons US racism remained much more oppressive than Latin racism, despite Brazil maintaining slavery longer, was that black Americans are much more visibly distinct and identifiable due to prohibitions on interracial relationships. As a result, race is a much more fluid class in Brazil, and you don't have as much racial agitation and racial politicking. The typical slavery-descended black American should probably look more approximate to Ben Shelton or Zoe Kravitz than Idris Elba or Lupita N'yongo, thus representing their complete integration into the American fabric rather than a separate lump group.

I would also point out that "racial democracy" in Brazil is not the success story it is often made out to be. press.princeton.edu/books/pa…

There's a long intellectual history where North & Latin Americans take each other as "the other America" to argue about whose slavery, colonization, and racism was better or worse. Juliet Hooker has done some great intellectual history in this area global.oup.com/academic/prod…

It turns out that if voluntary association is the basis of an antagonistic society... lots and lots of people will opt out.
Well, this is sad and terrible: “Many experts believe that estrangements between adult children and their parents are becoming an epidemic in the U.S.” “Psychologists say young adults’ definition of harmful parental behavior is changing.” They “consider ordinary conflict to be much worse than it once was” and “have a much broader definition than their elders of psychological harm.” “Many now view repeated criticism, strong disagreements and other painful relationship conflicts as abusive.” “In their minds, they see themselves as more enlightened and therefore more justified to cut off for more reasons.”

Bradley Cooper spent 6 years learning to conduct just 6 minutes and 21 seconds of music for this scene.. only to lose to Cillian Murphy in Oscars.
