In the spring, Lucia Ayala was solving Navier-Stokes on a whiteboard in her @MITEngineering thermofluids class. A few months later she was designing the fluid systems themselves.
She spent three months here at @freeform_future working on two major projects.
One focused on keeping oxygen out of a build chamber where the byproducts of every print are reactive enough that a single leak is a real problem.
The other, a life cycle test she built from scratch, because no existing model could predict how a critical component in our build module would actually perform.
She got to present her findings to the whole company.
"It feels like my engineering work is really taken seriously here. I'm treated as a full member of the team."
@MIT, keep sending us people like Lucia. 🙏

Jack Fowler spent his summer at @freeform_future on a question that decides how fast our machines can actually run.
He came from @NCState, where he does research at @NCStateCAMAL, one of the top collegiate additive labs in the country. That work showed him how little process control conventional metal printers have. He went looking for a company that had solved it. We were the only one.
Here he designed a set of experiments on laser and control parameters, built the tooling to run them, and pushed the physics as far as it would go.
By the end of the summer we were printing faster than ever.
Everyone here is responsible for pushing the boundaries of what's possible, even interns.

Liam King is a rising junior at the @umichme. Before @freeform_future, he was already machining components for Michigan's @MRacingFSAE race car and printing parts for the Air Force through research in the university's Smart Materials lab.
He found Freeform at the university career fair, stopped in his tracks by a metal part sitting on the table. His first reaction: "Whoa, this geometry is ridiculous. How did you do that?" He had to know how it was made.
After he showed up in LA, he didn't expect the level of trust an intern would get here. On his first day, he was integrating parts onto Skyfall, the most advanced manufacturing platform on the planet.
"The amount of trust that they place here in people's engineering skills is really quite astonishing. I've learned just about as much here in these last few months as I have in years of school."
That's what it's all about.

Bradley Kern graduated from @CalPoly with a mechanical engineering degree. Before starting his master's this fall, he spent the summer at @freeform_future .
His assignment: an automated system to destroy Skyfall's massive air filters without manual handling or downtime. Bradley designed it from scratch: a 900kg carbon steel weldment, rated for 150,000 lbs of hydraulic force, that takes a 52-inch filter down to 8.
"I've done more here in a month than I've done in twelve weeks at NASA."
That's the kind of ownership we hand our interns at Freeform. Critical projects that outlast the internship itself.

Hans Milaniak is a mechanical engineering intern, a rising senior, and a diehard @Purdue Boilermaker, same as our CEO @ErikPalitsch. Purdue talent runs deep at @freeform_future, and Hans fits right in.
He found us at a career fair, walked over out of curiosity, and spent the summer owning a critical piece of Skyfall, the kind of ownership most early-career engineers wait years for.
"I know I'm going to be a significantly better engineer in the future because of my experience here."
Frontier engineering problems need great builders. This is the place to be.

1/ Tasso Lappas, Chief Scientific Officer at Freeform explains why 50,000 frames per second of real physical data changes what's possible for closed-loop process control 🧵
4/ "If you can control the process at all the stages correctly, then your predictive models are accurate."
Our data models and controls make our predictive models a self-fulfilling prophecy — control drives accuracy, in real time.
5/ "No one can do this. To do this, you need the platform to gather the data."
High-speed compute. Real physical data. A closed loop tight enough to control metal at the micron level — live.
That's @freeform_future .
There's never been a better time to be a frontier hardware company because of @freeform_future .
Advanced hardware companies are scaling faster than ever. The bottleneck isn't the idea, it's turning that idea into thousands of flawless, complex parts at speed.
Aaron Littlejohn, our Senior Manager of Production, explains why manufacturing as a service solves that.
Just focus on the breakthrough. We'll make sure it ships. #AdvancedManufacturing#PhysicalAI#FrontierTech#Hardware
Our work can be hard to follow if you're not deep in the game. Additive manufacturing has a reputation for being complicated.
We go from concept to finished parts, at scale, fast, so frontier tech keeps pace with hardware demand. That's what Freeform is built for. #EngineeringJobs
@freeform_future is a build-first engineering company. We make the thing, then we let it talk.
Skyfall is that mentality fully unleashed. Brilliant people, relentless work, months of refusing to settle.
Whatever you think you know about us, just wait. The game is about to change.
