Julius Randle, 3-point maxxing again?
"My goal this year is to have a career high in [3-pointers] as far as attempts, makes, all of those things. I had an assistant coach in New York, Johnnie Bryant -- and you know, I can create off the dribble, get to my midrange, get to the basket. Those are things I'm comfortable doing, but it's hard, every single time, trying to get to that against a set defense -- and he used to tell me, 'Man, catch-and-shoot three, catch and shoot.'
"He's still ingrained in my mind. It was weird at first because it was like, I felt like I was settling. You know, me being a guy that likes to attack and play with force, I'm like, 'Man, why am I settling?'
"He was like, 'Bro, I'm telling you, this is gonna be the easiest shot you get sometimes, rather than having to fight against one, two, three guys all the time. This is gonna be the easiest shot.' That year, I shot eight threes game, which was my career-high. So it's something that like you gotta get used to, and it's a little bit uncomfortable at first.
"But once you get the hang of it and the rhythm of it, by that time, if I had any daylight of a catch-and-shoot three, I was taking it. And there were games I would have seven, eight, nine threes like made, and it just made the game so much easier, and the parts of my game that I love to get to opened up more because I was willing to take that shot."
2023 Julius Randle was one of the most unique offensive-stars of the decade, mixing guard 3Pr with center level glass cleaning
With the upcoming Jordi Fernandez rehabilitation project, i hope to see this peak-form Randle launching threes once more
