Teaching this through survivors' own testimony is the part that actually sticks with kids. Good work getting those materials into classrooms.

Today we remember the genocide of the Roma and Sinti by the Nazis. Krystyna Gil (née Ciuroń), born 11/5/38, gave testimony to #FVAHT on 5/13/95 in Kraków at 57 years of age. She became an advocate for the rights of Romani people after her experience during World War II.

Gil’s advocacy was vital for collective memory. Her account is the only Romani testimony among 32 interviews recorded in Polish and on-site, and the only Polish-language testimony among the 48 Romani accounts in our collection.
