ALT The Orion Nebula, visible with the naked eye below the belt of three stars in Orion looks like THIS when you take away the stars. This was after a 45 second exposure from a dark sky site with our remote observatory system.
ALT The Horsehead Nebula without stars around. The bright spot above center is Alnitak, the left most star in Orions Belt of three. Never knew so much was hiding just out of sight did ya?!
ALT Rosette nebula 5200 light years away, 65 light years across. Stellar nursery with young cluster at center that has cleared the center of residual gas and dust from their powerful young stellar winds.
ALT Closeup of the area above center in the Rosette showing some Bok Globules. What are they? Condensing dark clouds of dust that could end up being star systems someday complete with planets! These dark dust globules with the copious hydrogen gas there in general are the star and planet makers of the universe.
ALT The Orion Nebula region exposed! Look at all the dark nebula that is reflecting the light from nearby stars... It is a veritable dust bin. New stars and new planets are very likely forming right now as we speak
