Excited to share that I recently joined @OpenAI 🚀 First, I want to give a huge thank you to the amazing @omni team. It was an honor to be in the trenches with y’all and I’m excited to keep cheering the team on for all that’s ahead. I’m joining OpenAI to help lead their forward deployed engineering teams. The world is rapidly changing as frontier models continue to improve at an accelerating rate and I wanted to have a front-row seat to the action. It’s very exciting to be reunited with so many friends from Columbia, Palantir, and Explo, now as coworkers (again). There is so much to do, there is so much demand, but there are not enough people. A day in the life of an OAI FDE might include: 1️⃣ Embedding deeply with customers and shipping outcomes 2️⃣ Contributing customer learnings back to product 3️⃣ Building evals from the field and partnering with research to improve our models If this sounds exciting to you, please DM or email me! (we are also aggressively hiring for other roles across the entire organization!)

some absolutely amazing work by our FDE team + Research team showcased in this reach out if you want to work on challenging (but fun!) problems in the physical world 🤖
ChatGPT and Codex are helping engineers build for the physical world. We’re sharing our progress across mechanical design, electrical engineering, and simulation—from helping our hardware teams iterate faster to testing new workflows with industry collaborators.

quick tip i learned at OAI (for those who still use the terminal) - optimize your shell startup time ask Codex something like: "please profile my shell startup (zsh, bash, etc), find the bottlenecks, and fix them without losing functionality" my terminal's start up time went from about 1s to 50ms (~20x faster) and you can really feel the diff

i get this every month, but thankfully it never actually makes it to my credit card statement
You're not a real engineer if you don't have a mystery $0.53 AWS bill coming from a rogue service in perpetuity.

Now that you can text your dot, I’m not sure if I’ll ever text Instinct again
one (pretty huge) benefit of Instinct is it's ability to work in scenarios with poor / spotty internet connectivity was on a United flight to EWR today that got impacted by the air traffic control communications outage i was only connected to the free wifi option to send messages (tried to buy wifi multiple times but wasn't able to for whatever reason) i was still able to iMessage Instinct and had it do a bunch of work for me while we were still in the air, but had already been notified we were being diverted to SYR: * check every 5 minutes and give me EWR's latest status (and if any flights have been cleared to land) * find available flights to an NYC airport that is not impacted * book a rental car on Enterprise * book another rental car on Avis (just in case one company overbooks) * look into other forms of transportation that we may not have thought of yet * find out what other flights got diverted to SYR (wanted to understand what the deplaning & immigration wait might look like once we were wheels down) great work @noahrshinn

Announcing Signalful Weekly Every week, founders, operators and investors give more good interviews (50-80 per week!) than anyone running a company has time to watch. The idea worth keeping is often five minutes, buried somewhere in the middle of the second hour of the interview. So we built Signalful Weekly (@signalfulnews). Every Friday, we go through the week’s interviews and pull out the 10 ideas most helpful for founders, operators and investors. Each idea comes with a quote, a link to the exact point in the video, and our take on what it means for your company. The first edition is out today. We went through 53 interviews to write it. What made the cut: - Stripe's coding agents - SAP's token budgets - Gusto's acquisition math - Vercel's customer test - Juicebox's launch lesson + 5 Extra Signals My hope is that Signalful weekly will be one of the most useful and impactful parts of Signalful - truly living up to the brand promise to separate the signal from the noise - and become a must read part of your week.

Pretty disappointing Starlink experience on United today. Guess we are still early
getting a united plane with starlink feels like such a luxury (wonder how this will feel a year from now)

When you’re asking people to change a process they’ve followed for 20 years, you have to go incrementally. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast. We keep the bigger opportunity in view while giving people room to understand and get comfortable with each change. One of the biggest learnings for us has been how important that change-management approach is. We can have the technology and solve the technical problem, but realizing the value also depends on helping people change how they work. You can read more about how we work with customers here: openai.com/business/forward-… 🚀

Very pumped for this! Excited to hear from @colintjarvis, @meghanatera, @roy__ziv, @graceyraspberry. Let me know / comment below if you have any specific questions you want answered and I’ll pass it along to the team ahead of the session 🎙️🎙️🎙️
👋 We heard your feedback on FDE ! We’re partnering with the OpenAI Forum on a series of livestreams, and this first one covers the basics. Join @colintjarvis , the Head of FDE, as he leads a panel of OpenAI FDEs on how we close the deployment gap. forum.openai.com/public/even…

can not confirm nor deny, unfortunately will try to answer whatever i can to clarify, though
Hearing from the rumor mill: a frontier lab is preparing to release a new model that is better than their old model. In response, other frontier labs are reportedly releasing new models that are better than their old models. One of these will be the best. It may be a surprise.

Another FDE here! 👋 Are you more excited to hear about a day in the life of an OpenAI FDE, about strategies for being effective with AI tools, or what we’ve learned by deploying in specific industries? Also…do you want videos? 👀
Hi! I’m an FDE at OpenAI, and we’re thinking about publishing some of our work and learnings in a series of technical blog posts. What would you like us to write about?
