Yep
Watching a news story about the amount of deaths of young people in the water due to lack of strength in swimming. ZERO discussion about how this is related to poverty and deprivation, swimming lessons are SO expensive.

I’ve worked in swimming for most of my life & the combination of 40% real terms cuts to council budgets from 2010-2020, followed by Covid, followed by the energy crisis, absolutely decimated pools up & down the country. It’ll take 30 years to fix what the Tories destroyed.

I was just talking to my partner recently about how we all used to do school swimming galas in our LAs when we were kids and how none of the youngsters now have any idea what that looks like

When my kids were small it was almost impossible to find anywhere where we could get lessons, even if we were willing to pay.

Tbh I also think in an ideal world they should’ve taught us regularly from an early age. Instead they taught us once a week at 10 years old for short amount of time. 😭😭 I still don’t know how to swim and I’m 25 😀
