Respectfully, this sounds more like an excuse than a strategy. Yes,people must stop dumping waste into drains. But the Authority's mandate is to plan, maintain, and improve drainage systems so predictable human behavior doesn't repeatedly turn rainfall into tragedy. Thousands were displaced and lives were lost. What specific engineering interventions are being implemented to ensure this doesn't happen again? If the solution to flooding is simply "people should stop throwing dirt into drains" then why do we have a Hydrological Authority staffed with engineers? Engineering is about designing systems that anticipate real-world behavior, reducing risk through planning, maintenance, and resilient infrastructure. The public has a role, but institutional responsibility cannot be outsourced. If this is the level of thinking coming from the Head of Drainage after catastrophic floods claimed lives and displaced thousands, then it's time to ask whether the right people are leading our institutions. Today, my intern @Forensic_Ghost and I conducted an interesting digital forensics investigation at HIVE Consult. I recently purchased a Nikon camera for our Digital Forensics and Investigation training, and surprisingly, the 16GB SD card that came with it contained over 455 photographs dating as far back as 2009 with images captured across 2015, 2016, 2018, and through to 2025. As part of today's practical exercise, we selected a photograph from 2015 and conducted a reverse image search using Google. Interestingly, we were able to identify the location depicted in the image: the Southern Steps and Huldah Gates, located along the southern wall of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, Israel. This was a fascinating demonstration of how digital forensics and Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) can complement each other during investigations. The biggest lesson? Deleting files or disposing of storage devices does not necessarily mean the data is gone forever. Digital evidence can survive for years, and even a single photograph can reveal valuable investigative leads. You need to properly wipe your SD cards before selling.
