To date the most considered attemp at trying to explain the direct reason for the catastrophic flood in Tibet/Nepal. Of course the antecedent conditions that created the glacial instability also need to be considered.
1) Understandably many are confused where so much water came from with no lakes. We need to understand the scale of this. 🧵 > The glacier face that collapsed is ~1.5 kms wide & 1.4 kms deep. That height alone is nearly twice that of Burj Khalifa.

Assuming the translation is correct these are startling words from the Sephardi Chief Rabbi of Israel - a state sanctioned post.
The Chief Rabbi of the State of Israel, Rabbi David Yosef said today that the Palestinian people do not exist, do not have rights, that it is good that Gaza was destroyed and that with the help of God, all of Gaza and the West Bank will be Jewish soon. The Jewish religion is being used as a tool of genocide. This is not a fringe rabbi. This is the most important rabbi in Israel.

It rained in Sheffield on Monday - 7.8mm. The highest rainfall in the city since 13th May. - 3 months ago. In that time the city has had 68 days without rain. My garden resembles the Sahel but the Jalapenos are doing well

The Loire is the longest river in France - it often runs low in the summer but not this low. 4 nuclear power stations draw water from the river to cool their reactors.
The Loire River in France today the summer of 2026 will be a lightning rod moment in history as the scale of the climate catastrophe we face become all too clear

Seen this from somebody who appears to have decent natural science professional expertise. Hmmm...possible but still a week off so a lot can change

Hottest June day on record in Yorkshire, with 34.2C (93F) at Sheffield Weston park beating the previous record of 33.1C set in June 1941 in Huddersfield. For interest I’ve added the top temperature in Yorkshire in the entire summer of 1976 @BBCLookNorth

Read the new book on the history of independent music in Sheffield. A tricky gig to write but done really well by @DanielDylanWray. My Sheffield music scene of the 80s onwards is a bit different from this account. I guess everybody's might be. Hence tricky

Breaking: Reform has suspended new Sheffield councillor Nathaniel Menday, after further social media posts were uncovered by my colleague @finnsmithjourno for the @SheffieldStar which included a huge photo of a Nazi flag with a swastika on it and a photo of Hitler's Mein Kamf.

If you live in Sheffield this is important. Woodhouse Ward elected Nathaniel Menday (35% turnout) with a 1097 majority. A man who hangs a Nazi flag in his bedroom & talks of a 'sub-human underrclass'. Woodhouse is a decent w/class area...the shame.

I know Sheerness well - my father-in-law worked at the docks & I visited for decades since 1986. Basically the most working class town I've ever been to in UK - used to be so many pubs. Difficult to revive-it's peripheral. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cy81…

The sort of thread that X used to be interesting for. Thought provoking, measured and data driven. What's the solution @DanNeidle - well like you I'm not sure but it appears to date like the No11 strategy but until when? And then what direction?
UK tax is going to be the highest since 1945. But public spending won't increase; in fact most of us will experience a decline in public services. Here's why - in a thread that I'd love to be completely wrong.

So @FIFAcom was this in their bid? It is a disgrace and you have enabled it. FIFA is simply not fit for purpose and @Olympics should take note and plan to go elsewhere - I'm sure China could do a decent rerun in quick time
Fans from several countries participating in this summer’s World Cup must deposit up to $15,000 in bond payments to be granted a tourist visa to enter the United States, while organiser FIFA is privately pressing the Trump administration to make exemptions for players. The difficulties have emerged as nationals from certain countries travelling to the U.S. on a business or tourist visa — known as B-1 and B-2 visas — have been subject to bond payments after policy changes by President Donald Trump’s administration. The “Visa Bond Pilot Program” relates to 50 countries, five of which have qualified for the World Cup. The policy has impacted nationals from Algeria, Cape Verde, Senegal and Ivory Coast since January 21 this year. Last week, World Cup participants Tunisia were among the countries added to the list, which comes into effect from April 2. There is no wording outlined in the Visa Bond Pilot Program that grants immunity to athletes competing in major sports events such as the World Cup.
