225,462 shadow blocks last month on one platform we moderate. 89,859 flags. Zero blocks. A shadow block means the message posts normally for the person who sent it and is invisible to everyone else. No error, no warning, nothing to tell them it happened. That's the point. Tell a spammer he's blocked and he has a new account in ninety seconds and you start over. Let him keep posting into an empty room and he stays exactly where you can watch him. Almost nobody who broke the rules last month found out they broke the rules.

Of all the moderation activity Stream flagged, one user committed 18.6% of the abuse. That's nearly a fifth. This included 995 enforcement actions in seven days, or 142 per day. Flooding, vulgarity, insults, and 96 separate racist messages. Don't let one person kill the vibe.

Had an *amazing* time on Tuesday speaking at the @ClaudeDevs Code community meetup in Amsterdam!
