Zelenskyy reports that today's Russian strikes on Ukraine killed 25 people. 19 of them died in Pryluky in a missile strike on an ordinary apartment building. 5 of them were children.
Overall, 25 people were killed in this massive Russian strike on Ukraine. One hundred people were injured. It was a combined attack, involving many ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as “shaheds.” This is the kind of “gift” Putin gave himself for his birthday. Ukrainian warriors shot down 44 missiles – both cruise and ballistic. Not all of those launched by Russia, and ballistic missiles are especially difficult to deal with. We suppressed 117 “shaheds” – most of those launched, but unfortunately, not all of them either. Additional packages of air defense missiles are needed, as are additional measures to support Ukraine. And there will be appropriate packages. The threat is there every day, and every day, our air defense batteries need to have missiles ready. We strongly count on prompt deliveries from our partners.

THE HISTORY OF THIS ROCK ART This canyon isn't one culture's story. It's layers of different peoples writing onto the same walls and the same ground across thousands of years. Its rock art spans the Archaic, Fremont, and Ute periods. The Fremont lived here roughly 950 to 1250 AD, farming corn, beans and squash using small irrigation systems off Nine Mile Creek. Their panels show daily life and belief, abstract designs, hunting scenes, animals, people. Later, Ute people added their own rock art to the canyon, layered right alongside the Fremont record, in a style archaeologists describe as more dynamic. The road through this canyon has its own history too. It was built in 1886 by Buffalo Soldiers, Black cavalrymen of the U.S. 9th Cavalry, to supply Fort Duchesne on the frontier. For 25 years it carried stagecoaches, mail and freight into the Uintah Basin. Nineteenth century travelers left their own marks on these walls as well, names and inscriptions written in wagon axle grease. The lawsuit says BLM failed to adequately analyze the threat to those historic inscriptions either. That's what makes this different from losing a building. You can rebuild a structure. You cannot rebuild an unbroken physical record spanning thousands of years, carved into the same stone. Once it's broken, it's just gone. No reconstruction, no replica, no do-over. → Visit Utah's official history breaks down which cultures created which panels, and how their styles differ: visitutah.com/articles/the-4…

The Bureau of Land Management approved blasting through 100-foot canyon walls at the entrance to the world's longest art gallery. So oil tankers can drive through it. Nine Mile Canyon, Utah holds more than 10,000 cultural, historical and archaeological resources, including over 1,000 known rock art sites containing more than 10,000 individual images. People have used this canyon for at least 8,000 years. The blasting happens in Gate Canyon, the entrance corridor into that gallery. Federal surveys have already found 47 historic sites along this one stretch of road alone. And it's not only the rock art. Threatened Mexican spotted owls use cliff habitat in the canyon, including areas near the proposed blasting. BLM did the minimum environmental review required and barreled ahead anyway, to move oil out of the Uinta Basin faster. Up to 1,000 vehicles a day, roughly half of them heavy tankers. This isn't BLM's first swing at this road. Duchesne County tried the same realignment in 2015 and again in 2022. Both times, public opposition killed it. This time, BLM posted it quietly in March with no public notice, denied conservation groups' request to even weigh in, and approved it in April anyway. It's the same playbook that just got this administration stopped at Big Bend National Park, except "stopped" is doing a lot of work in that sentence. There, a judge halted construction October 2nd, but only after bulldozers had already torn through the park’s grounds. A win in court doesn't un-crush what's already crushed. Three groups sued over Gate Canyon this week. But a lawsuit takes months. A blasting crew takes days. #DemsUnited 🧵

Russia attacked residential buildings and critical infrastructure across Ukraine with hundreds of missiles and drones, killing at least two people in Kyiv and four others across the country. Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kremenchuk and Pryluky were among the cities targeted by Russian attacks. "On Putin’s birthday, Russian generals brought him his favorite present: war crimes," Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has commented. Russia must face stronger sanctions targeting its military-industrial complex, including facilities producing ballistic missiles and the Rassvet satellite system. Ukraine needs stronger support, including more air defence systems and urgent energy assistance ahead of winter.

Now, while rescue operations are still ongoing in our cities following the latest Russian terrorist attack, while rubble is being cleared and the wounded are receiving assistance, Ukraine extends its condolences, with particular sorrow, to each and every person in Israel and other countries who lost loved ones in the vile Hamas terrorist attack of October 7, 2023. Ukrainian citizens were also among the victims. It was the largest and most brutal attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust and an attack on civilization itself. There can be no forgiveness for it. Tragically, nearly 1,200 people were killed. Hostages were abused—children and innocent people. Every terrorist must be held accountable for what they did. Likewise, no other act of terror and no other war of aggression rooted in hatred should be forgiven or forgotten. There have already been far too many killings in the 21st century, a century that should have been, and must still become, entirely different. People deserve peace, security, and respect for human life. World leaders, and everyone with real influence and power, must truly stand up for life when it matters. The world is certainly stronger than any terror.

Russia has been caught red-handed running yet another large-scale disinformation campaign across Europe, under the telling slogan "Russia is not my enemy." The very fact that Moscow is putting so much effort into this message proves two things. First, Russia is indeed Europe's enemy. Second, the Kremlin realizes that more and more Europeans understand this. A reminder: in the run-up to the full-scale invasion, throughout 2021 and early 2022, Russian officials repeatedly insisted they had no plans to attack Ukraine. The more they deny plans to attack other European nations, the more likely it is that this is exactly what they are preparing. We call on allies to step up pressure on Russia and support for Ukraine to stop Putin now, before he puts his criminal plans into action.
Russia's current large-scale "Russia is not my enemy" propaganda campaign is one of their largest of the year. Our analysis details ongoing strategy. spravdi.org/en/russiaisnotmy…

Something unprecedented happened during my visit to the Gulf. For the first time in 20 years in Congress, I was denied entry to U.S. military facilities and even meetings with military leaders. An order from Hegseth - that applies to both parties - to hide the cost of the war.

For context: In just over 7 months of war with Iran, the U.S. has already lost or damaged 81 military aircraft—fighters, tankers, helicopters and drones. It took multiple years of war in Iraq and Afghanistan to reach comparable aircraft losses. Whatever else you think about this war, the rate at which we're losing American airpower is extraordinary.
At least 81 US military aircraft are known to have been destroyed, lost or otherwise damaged / knocked out of service during the war with Iran, according to a new Congressional Research Service report:

Russia destroyed new warehouse belonging to the Knigolove publishing house in Kyiv today. According to the company's press service, the facility was storing books restocked after previous strike in July. Tens of thousands of books were lost. Destroying Ukrainian books, banning Ukrainian language, prosecuting Ukrainian writers is centuries old Russian practice and part of their "culture."

Now backed by the White House, the bodies of more kids pulled from their homes this morning all over Ukraine, while Putin celebrates his birthday with a huge round of mass murder. Trump will surely put a call in to congratulate his friend.

Today, as a birthday “gift” to Putin, the Russian army destroyed a residential building in Pryluky, in the Chernihiv region. It was an ordinary five-story apartment building. Tragically, as of now, five people have been reported killed and 26 injured, including five children. There may still be people under the rubble. First responders are working nonstop at the site – doing everything possible to find every person. Russian missile strikes also damaged five apartment buildings in Dnipro and four high-rise buildings in Kremenchuk. Tragically, two people were killed and eight injured. A high-rise building in Zaporizhzhia was damaged by a drone. In Kyiv, the Russians killed two people. Two more people were killed in Oleksandriya… My condolences to all the families and loved ones of those killed. Overall, infrastructure in Kyiv and 12 regions came under attack last night. One of the key targets was our energy infrastructure. The Russians wanted to strike painfully and demonstratively. This was one of the most vile strikes: 70 missiles in total, many of them ballistic, as well as “shaheds.” Unfortunately, only some of them were shot down. Russian ballistic missiles remain the greatest challenge. And air defense packages for us right now are a vital necessity. That is why every day we are looking for missiles for Patriot systems that can and must actually protect people’s lives here, in Ukrainian skies. Thank you to everyone who is helping us.

At a Nebraska rally last night, President Donald Trump said Democrats "allowed 25 million people to pour across our borders from all over the world." That's false and far above any estimates we found. We fact-checked dozens of the president's talking points he repeats while campaigning for the midterms. buff.ly/tsGnZOh
