Update:
The incident affecting GoodDollar on Celo was due to a bug in the Superfluid protocol that allowed a malicious Super App to bypass Superfluidβs normal stream liquidation process.
As a result, G$ balances that should have been liquidated remained available, leaving more G$ in the market than should have been.
These excess G$ were then exchanged against assets in the GoodDollar Reserve and other G$ liquidity pools.
86,588 cUSD was exchanged out of the GoodDollar Reserve on Celo, and $20,857 from the GoodDollar Reserve on XDC. External G$ liquidity pools were also affected.
The GoodDollar Reserves on Celo and XDC were not depleted as a result of the incident, thanks to monitoring alerts, the rapid pause of affected operations, and existing protocol safeguards.
Claiming, G$ transfers, and identity verification on Celo have already been restored.
The GoodDollar Reserves on Celo and XDC remain temporarily paused, as does bridging, and liquidity in external pools is currently limited. Swapping G$ is not recommended until liquidity is restored, as low liquidity may result in significant slippage and prices that do not reflect the usual G$ market price.
A plan is in place to address the excess G$, restore liquidity, and safely resume the remaining paused functionality.
Superfluid has since deployed a hotfix on Celo, reinstated Super App whitelisting, and liquidated the affected insolvent accounts.
A full technical report from the Superfluid Security Council will follow in the coming days.
A full GoodDollar incident report will also follow, covering the impact, the response during the incident, and the actions taken following the incident.
