Step 1: The US bans all diesel fuel exports
Step 2: Prices for diesel go down incrementally in the US
Step 3: US refineries mysteriously need "maintenance" because it's more profitable for refiners to ship diesel overseas than to sell it domestically
Step 4: Prices for diesel go up everywhere else
Step 5: Prices for everything go up everywhere else
Step 6: Prices for things the US buys from everywhere else and the cost to ship to the US go up
Step 7: Ironically, the price of diesel fuel starts to go up again because of a magical supply restriction caused by US refinery maintenance
Step 8: Higher inflation
Step 9: Record oil company profits
Step 10: Blame everyone else
This isn't 3D chess. It's barely checkers.
The whole U.S. energy industry plus two key businesses associations (the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers) have sent a joint letter to President Trump urging him against limits of diesels exports.
Unprecedented for a Republican White House.
