Day 2 of @hack4_freedom Nairobi brought another full day of learning, building and big conversations. ⚡️🇰🇪 The day started with @WhatsHautewithH exploring how developers can think about projects that solve real problems, particularly for women and communities across Africa. Then @wandiology took the devs into the intersection of AI, Bitcoin and community, from using AI tools in Bitcoin development to thinking about how we train technology to understand African languages and local contexts. She also helped the devs set up their AI workspaces and challenged them to think about building solutions that truly work for everyone. The technical side continued with Frankline Omondi, who gave the devs a hands-on introduction to fuzzing Bitcoin Core and getting started with Bitcoin testing. But beyond the sessions, Day 2 was about the room: developers learning from each other, asking questions, experimenting with new tools and thinking more deeply about the kind of technology they can build for their communities. DAY 1 OF HACK4FREEDOM NBO 🇰🇪 And oh, Dada Devs! 😮‍💨🔥 The turnout. The energy. The talent. UNMATCHED. Day 1 made one thing very clear: skills and talent aren’t the missing gap. The room is. We kicked things off with @briimhd Founder of @hack4_freedom , who took the ladies through why this work matters and why creating more opportunities for builders is critical. Our Founder, @marcelorraine , challenged the room to think beyond simply being consumers of technology. Her message? Build from Africa. Africa doesn’t just need more people using technology. We need more people building it. She encouraged the participants to explore what they can create using open-source protocols like Bitcoin, Lightning, Nostr and eCash and to see themselves not just as participants in the ecosystem, but as builders shaping what comes next. A session that had the room reflecting on why they showed up and what they’re capable of building.. 🧵

Rita (@Camilla_rhi) is a developer based in Lagos 🇳🇬, focused on LDK Node. LDK Node is a ready-to-use Lightning node library that helps developers add Lightning functionality to their applications. With the long-term grant, Rita will work on making it more reliable and easier to integrate, helping developers build applications that support both on-chain and Lightning payments. She is also an active member of @BitDevsLagos and a @btrust_builders pathway chaperone, supporting developers as they deepen their understanding of Bitcoin.

Sharon (@nkatha_kk) is a developer based in Nairobi 🇰🇪, and an alumna of @DadaDevs and @btrust_builders. She completed the 2026 BOSS Challenge, where she made her first major Bitcoin open-source contribution. Her grant-funded work focuses on @braidpool's mining infrastructure: strengthening Stratum V1 reliability, addressing gaps in protocol implementation, and improving scalability. This work helps connect existing mining ⛏️ equipment with decentralized pool software. Nkatha also helps lead discussions at @BitDevsNBO meetups, supporting learning and knowledge-sharing within the local developer community.
