ETHIOPIA ONCHAIN | DAY 6/7 ETHIOPIA DOESN’T JUST NEED BLOCKCHAIN USERS. IT NEEDS BLOCKCHAIN BUILDERS. Infrastructure does not build itself. Every wallet, payment system, identity solution, DeFi application, tokenized asset platform, and blockchain integration starts with someone who knows how to build it. That makes developers one of the most important parts of Ethiopia’s onchain future. Universities, communities, hackathons, developer programs, grants, and local projects all play a role in creating the talent needed to turn blockchain infrastructure into real products. And the opportunity extends beyond writing smart contracts. Ethiopia needs developers working across payments, cybersecurity, identity, financial infrastructure, data, AI, and decentralized applications. The global blockchain economy is being built by developers who can turn open infrastructure into useful products. Ethiopia’s place in that economy will depend on how many builders we empower today. 🇪🇹 #EthiopiaOnchain #EBW2026 #BlockchainEthiopia #Web3Ethiopia

ETHIOPIA CUTS BITCOIN MINING POWER BY 75% AMID HYDRO ELECTRICITY SHORTAGE State utility Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) has drastically reduced electricity delivered to data and Bitcoin mining operations by 75%. Declining water levels into hydroelectric reservoirs driven by severe dry conditions have forced the grid operator to cut supply down to just ~23% of contracted volumes. The decision reflects a sharp shift in national energy allocation priorities. Although data mining became EEP's largest single revenue generator over the past fiscal year, the state utility announced that domestic household access and industrial manufacturing take primary priority over energy exports and high-density compute clients. EEP plans to reassess reservoir water levels in October before deciding whether to adjust mining power allocations or further limit regional energy exports.

ጳጉሜ 1 | THE 13TH MONTH Ethiopia has something unique about the way we measure a year. 13 months. Twelve months of 30 days, followed by ጳጉሜ, five extra days that bring one Ethiopian year to a close. Today marks the beginning of that final chapter. Before we enter another year, it is worth looking back at what Ethiopia’s blockchain ecosystem has built, the communities that grew, the developers who kept building, the ideas that became projects, and the conversations that pushed the ecosystem forward. A year is not only measured by time. It is measured by what we build with it. For the next five days, we’ll reflect on where Ethiopia’s blockchain ecosystem has been, where it stands today, and where we can take it next. Five days. One year ending. A new chapter about to begin. 🇪🇹 ጳጉሜ 1 | 2018 ዓ.ም #EBW2026 #BlockchainEthiopia #Web3Ethiopia

Exactly one year ago, Ethiopian Blockchain Week happened for the first time. September 6–7, 2025. Addis Ababa. 1,000+ attendees. 250+ volunteers. 15+ speakers. 10+ media partners. A year later, I wrote a short retrospective on the first edition, the people behind it, and what it meant for Ethiopia’s blockchain ecosystem. The first chapter was just the beginning. @EthioBW Read it here: etbw.online/blog/-1-year-of-…

🇪🇹 ETHIOPIAN BLOCKCHAIN WEEK IS HELPING BUILD ETHIOPIA’S BLOCKCHAIN FUTURE Blockchain in Ethiopia is growing, but ecosystems don’t grow from technology alone. They grow when people come together. That is where Ethiopian Blockchain Week comes in. EBW has become a meeting point for Ethiopia’s blockchain ecosystem, bringing together developers, founders, investors, communities, institutions, and global Web3 leaders under one platform. It creates the space for builders to connect, ideas to be shared, projects to emerge, and Ethiopia’s blockchain community to connect with the rest of the world. From hackathons and bootcamps to conferences, networking, and ecosystem building, EBW is creating opportunities for the people actually building in this space. The future of blockchain in Ethiopia will not be built by one company, one project, or one person. It will be built by an ecosystem. And Ethiopian Blockchain Week is helping bring that ecosystem together. 🇪🇹

📈BITCOIN SMASHES $76K AND THE SHORT SQUEEZE IS REAL Bitcoin just casually rocketed past $76,000, leaving bears scrambling for cover after a monster $520 million single-day inflow into spot ETFs. Turns out, while everyone was arguing on the timeline, institutional desks were quietly buying up every coin in sight to hedge against macro chaos and global debt expansion. This is heavy institutional money moving into spot supply. Watching Wall Street absorb liquidity this fast feels like playing a video game where the final boss keeps getting bigger, except this time the boss is wearing a suit and managing a trillion-dollar portfolio. If your corporate strategy still doesn't account for digital assets on the balance sheet, you're essentially playing financial tag with one shoe tied. As traditional rails continue to lag behind, 24/7 global liquidity is proving that the future of capital markets is already eating the order book.

BANKS PREPARE TO OPEN CRYPTO WALLETS FOR 77% OF CONSUMERS READY TO SPEND ONCHAIN New market research released today reveals that 77% of global consumers are now ready to open digital asset and stablecoin wallets provided those tools are integrated directly into their existing banking and FinTech apps. While past cycles focused on luring users onto complex, standalone crypto exchanges, the immediate growth opportunity has shifted toward traditional financial institutions serving as direct gateways for everyday digital payments. This demand is already translating into massive, real-world volume. Point-of-sale spending through crypto-linked debit cards has surged nearly 15-fold over the past three years, climbing to an annualized rate of $18 billion as users demand instant conversion at checkout. However, a significant gap remains: 42% of stablecoin holders want to use digital assets for major purchases, but only 28% currently do—largely due to a lack of seamless merchant acceptance. The immediate commercial opportunity belongs to the builders and FinTechs bridging this friction point. By embedding stablecoin payment rails into familiar banking interfaces and established card networks, platforms can instantly unlock billions in pent-up consumer spending without forcing everyday users to learn complex Web3 infrastructure.

INSTITUTIONAL TREASURIES SHIFT FROM PASSIVE CRYPTO HOLDING TO ONCHAIN YIELD GENERATION Institutional adoption of digital assets is entering a structural transformation as corporate balance sheets transition from passive token storage to active onchain staking. Major crypto treasuries are increasingly deploying billions into enterprise-grade validator networks, securing blockchain consensus while generating hundreds of millions in programmatic yield. This shift signals that institutional capital no longer views core digital assets merely as speculative hedges, but as productive, yield-bearing infrastructure. The rise of institutional-grade staking networks reflects growing demand for enterprise security, strict compliance, and risk-managed execution across Web3 infrastructure. As corporate balance sheets scale their token holdings, traditional cold-storage models are yielding to integrated validator protocols designed to meet rigorous institutional audit standards. By converting static digital reserves into active validator operations, enterprise market participants are establishing a new benchmark for capital efficiency in modern treasury management. This evolution toward programmatic yield creates a vital precedent for financial institutions and corporate treasuries worldwide. As public blockchain validator operations continue to prove their ability to generate predictable, protocol-native returns alongside long-term capital appreciation, the line between traditional corporate finance and decentralized network participation continues to blur. Moving forward, secure and compliant validator architecture will serve as a foundational pillar for institutional participation in the global onchain economy.
