NO MEETING BETWEEN JPC & SC JUDGES ON ONOP: SC SC has clarified that no meeting will happen between SC judges and JPC committee on One Nation One Poll (ONOP). The proposal by the panel for “informal discussions” with SC judges was discussed by judges and the conclusion was that ONOP could become a matter of judicial review before SC and “it may not be expedient or desirable to discuss the issue on the administrative side”,sources said. Earlier in the day Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal had criticised the Committee's move to meet the SC judges saying that it was a violation of the separation of powers.

Row Over Rift Within ECI On SIR: A fresh petition has been filed in SC (3rd petition) Fresh plea filed by one Priya Mishra seeks issuance of a writ or mandamus for quashing and setting aside all such decisions, orders, notifications and executive instructions already issued in violation of the mandatory procedure for collective decision-making, and direct the Election Commission of India to reconsider and take fresh decisions strictly in accordance with Article 324 of the Constitution of India and the applicable statutory framework governing the transaction of business of the Commission. Two petitions- filed by advocate Shailendra Mani Tripathi and social activist Rakesh Kumar Singh -are already in the SC While Shailendra Mani Tripathi seeks criminal prosecution of Gyanesh Kumar for violation of statutory duties, Rakesh Kumar Singh demands suspension of CEC Gyanesh Kumar with immediate effect. SALEM’S “EARLY” RELEASE TO BE CONSIDERED ONLY IN 2046: MAHARASHTRA GOVT TOLD SC. COURT RECORDS IT IN THE JUDGMENT 1993 Mumbai serial blast convict Abu Salem had sought premature release on the ground that though the extradition agreement with Portugal said he won’t be made to spend more than 25 years in jail he has already spent 27 years in jail when undertrial set-off is combined with earned remission. But as per state of Maharashtra’s calculation his remission release can only be calculated in 2046 that is 20 years from now. The SC judgment has recorded this: “The judgment says respondent State, in paragraph 8 of the said affidavit, has furnished a calculation chart indicating 31st January, 2046 as the probable date of release of the appellant.” As per the state probable date of release of the prisoner after remission earned, set off period and after payment of fine is 31st January 2046
