Gavin Newsom just signed a law forcing California employers to train workers on spotting and confronting “hate speech,” yet his own social media feed is a nonstop stream of personal attacks on Trump. Hypocrisy doesn’t get much clearer than that. The bill never even defines “hate speech,” so it’s left wide open for whatever interpretation state bureaucrats prefer, while Newsom himself faces zero equivalent scrutiny for the way he talks about political opponents. Rules for the rest of us, free rein for him. Churches and religious nonprofits are right to worry this will be used to police traditional beliefs on sex and gender under the cover of “training,” especially when the guy pushing it spends his days online treating disagreement with him as the real offense.
