Happy 53rd Birthday, Neve Campbell. 🔪🎂
Sidney Prescott has been chased, stabbed, copied, studied and mythologized.
Neve never let her become anything less than human.
Thirty years later, that may be exactly why she still reigns.
And really, of course the queen of spooky season was born in October. 🎃

What a cathartic experience for slasher fans.
Jane Schoenbrun goes deep into movie mythology, but what really got me is something bigger. I can’t remember another filmmaker playing this well with the question of what creates a fandom. Why do we love a horror movie this much? What makes it stay with us? And how does that change depending on when we found it — and which generation we belong to?
For the initiated, recognizing the references is part of the joy. There are so many of them, but they never feel like references for reference’s sake. There’s real creativity here. And freshness.
Gillian Anderson. Hannah Einbinder. And, of course, our beloved Jasmin Savoy Brown.
Plus: there’s a scene that name-drops “fright master Wes Craven” and gets into the same discussion we’ve had here so many times about meta horror — and about movies becoming meta about the very movies we love.
That one felt particularly close to home.
I really can’t wait to see what Schoenbrun does next.
